I am seriously thinking the era of one and ones with the big programs is over. The big programs are pouring so much money in between coaches, facilities, and possibly more financial aid to the players.
The MAC is getting caught up in this also, making the sport cost more to run, but without a growing fan base. So the result will be sellout TV contracts and payday games to give the big programs some highlight reel material and the opportunity for an upset. Just how I'm seeing it.
We have one deal games in the near future with Oregon, several Big Ten teams and Tennessee. The Indiana and Maryland home and home deals were inked years ago. I think the only one and ones in the future will be with C-USA, MWC, AAC, and SBC. If we want to get Wisconsin or Minnesota to return, I think it will take two, perhaps even three games at their site.

Although, I'm happy we are playing very prestigious team the next few years I wish we would have more 2 for 1s. It might not be possible, but the Indiana game was my favorite home game so far and Maryland could be a lot of fun.

Anyone know how much Notre Dame is paying us?

I don't know that we ever had such an era. I'm pretty sure the Maryland and Indiana deals were signed as two-for-ones. If we don't have to play a second game at Bloomington, Ind., the reason may have to do with us just buying that part of the contract out later and putting a more lucrative game on our schedule in its place. Thinking back a few more years, my memory is that when we got Pittsburgh to play at our place in 2000, it was part of what was originally a two-for-one deal.

(As for Minnesota: I know we didn't play a second game out there, but I still tend to think it was originally planned to be a two-for-one. I could be wrong on this.)

The only other game we can even sort of argue was a one-for-one, if memory serves, was the series with Wisconsin where we played our home game at Cleveland Browns Stadium. This was a special situation where we seem to have been hoping to generate a lot more money by playing the game in Cleveland rather than the Doyt.

(It would also would appear that we did not generate enough revenue to justify trying to put another series like that together. My impression is that we did not generate enough revenue to cover our guarantee to Wisconsin and all the other expenses.)

I would happily settle for more two-for-ones.
