BG dead last in football budget.

BG could sell out every game at Doyt, Stroh and The Slate and still be #11 in MAC budget wise.

BG has the least budget in baseball if any MAC program. Dead last in WCHA. And I don't see it getting any better.

That said, I sure would LOVE to see a south endzone building in the football stadium that the article mentioned as being a possibility. Think how damn nice that would make the Doyt to close in that side. Even if it were empty and used for just storage it would look a helluva lot better than what it does now.

Waiting for alums to donate more money isn't a successful plan for BGSU athletics. Sounds like the University needs to reexamine athletics role at BGSU. If it isn't important enough to support financially then maybe it's time to get rid of it. It's embarrassing what the department has done to the baseball program and it's time for something to change.

I had heard from a few donors under previous ADs the push went away from collecting every dime they could in donations and instead started focusing mainly on fewer "big" donations. That disenfranchised a lot of previous donors. Also, as petty as it sounds, opening alcohol sales to everyone instead of just Falcon Club members took away one of their main reasons for joining.

The stat about us having the lowest hockey budget in the WCHA comes with a few caveats. Only five teams in the WCHA play in an on-campus arena owned by their respective university. Rental costs drives up budget numbers. BG also buses everywhere but Alaska keeping their travel expenses low.

In full disclosure I haven't been a Falcon Club member since we started BGSUHockey.com to avoid any conflict of interests.

Not saying that the method is either good or bad, but this has been a very standard move across the board in higher ed. Pretty much every study shows that this brings in a significantly higher amount of money. The question is just whether or not sacrificing higher engagement numbers is worth it. Being in higher ed fundraising myself, I have a lot of opinions on this, but I can see both sides of the argument.

I personally dropped my Falcon Club membership. The "perks" that came with the membership diminished to the point where I was simply making a donation under a special name. Don't call it a club if I don't really get anything worth my money.

Difficult to get private donations when such a small percentage of the alumni base are die-hard BG athletic supporters. Eventually the time will come when athletics will no longer be a viable aspect of the university, which is what the P5 schools are hoping happens. Bigger slice of the pie for them.

The dwindling attendance in our MACtion world certainly doesn't help build die hard alums.

The P5 will eventually become a 4 league 64 team NFL lite. The rest of the college sports world can go back to rational geographic conferences. sensible expense structures and Saturday football.

Falcon Club has never really been about the perks for me, it's about supporting athletics at my Alma Mater. It's a charity and I treat it as such.

This is how I feel. I wish I could give more but I make the FC donation with my football season tix renewal every year.

Why didn't BG put out a release on the Reece and Jacoby Cup standings that came out last night?

In case you're curious? We didn't do very well. It doesn't include hockey but we lost 3 of 4 to Miami and Western so we kinda lost that too.

Maybe BGSU should run a bake sale or reverse raffle to raise funds? Would that be enough to get us back on track.

They need to improve athletic operations first. When the same issues (parking, concessions, fan relations) rear their ugly heads year after year it only serves to alienate people who aren't going to come back to games. Start there and work your way up. There has to be value added to the game experience outside of the game itself. Then you'll get people invested who will eventually become inclined to get FC memberships or offer up donations to support athletics. IMO, that's where Moose needs to start if he wishes to obtain what appear to be rather nebulous goals.

For those that didn't see the All-Sports rankings (Reese and Jacoby Cup), the men finished 10th and the women dead LAST!
I have about had it giving any support, until the university does their financial part, equivalent to other MAC schools.

BG is basically running non revenue sports as glorified club teams. Minimal budget, coaches salaries, and scholarship money. Leaving it up to the alums and coaches to fundraise even the most basic of improvements.
Every loose cent goes into the "revenue sports". Like I said previously, if Dr. Mazey doesn't think athletics are worth investing in, then cut them. Or at least cut a bunch of them and drop down to FCS or D2.
Clearly we are a hockey powerhouse...drop to D2 and focus on hockey
