It's honestly quite sad. Wish I could spin it better.

Hmmmm...Wonder where Toledo finished in Reece and Jacoby? Spoiler alert, 11th and 12th. So at least Toledo always gives us a chance to look on the bright side.

The only GLIAC school that's really a peer to us is Wayne State. Bowling Green is a national university. Schools like Walsh College, Tiffin, Ohio Dominican, and Findlay are not peers.

I don't see us as a national University...I don't know of anyone who sees us as a national University.

I don't think D2 is the answer...I think non P5 schools are going to have to get realistic about the future and start setting some limits re budgets. Tricky proposition...but so was the atom bomb and that got built

I believe FCS is the answer. 20 fewer scholarships for football that can be spent in other ways. More realistic coaches salaries. More control of schedules. But for it to work, the MAC would have to move as a conference.

And the chance to compete for an actual AND attainable National Championship!

That's my take.

Most people think we're in KY. Heck, some people in Ohio even think this.

All I know is that wherever I am in the country, if I mention that I went to Bowling Green the typical response is, "Oh yeah, they've had a few pretty good football teams up there over the years, right?" We are known for our football program nationally and, unfortunately/undeservedly, not much else. I think leaving FBS would be unwise, and really shouldn't even be a talking point.

In the court of public perception...BG isn't a national university...Wayne State probably isn't either.
I don't advocate dropping to D2 any way...I think we need to band together with the rest of college football that isn't trying to be the NFL to come up with some realistic scholarship limits and some sensible numbers re staffing levels and budgets

If we had to drop anywhere, I'd advocate to go further down to DII. Going FCS would diminish our national exposure by quite a bit in football for a minor dip in costs, and wouldn't solve the problem of our non-revenue sports being an underfunded punching bag. We'd also have an issue with finding a conference, which you brought up.

If we dropped to DII, we'd get only slightly less exposure from football as FCS for a lot less money. Our other sports would be more competitive, plus the GLIAC would be a better fit for us than any of the FCS conferences. At least that's my opinion.

I'm fine with us dropping to FCS (or whatever the h*ck it's called), DII or DIII. Doesn't matter which one to me.

Pioneer League for football, Atlantic Sun for women's lacrosse, WCHA for hockey & MAC for everything else. Jacksonville & Stetson are in the PL for football and the A-Sun for lacrosse, allowing us to continue those natural rivalries, and we can continue our football rivalries with Dayton, Butler, Drake, Valpo and Morehead State as well! Not to mention Campbell (named after former BG football standout Khary Campbell) and San Diego (the name means "Whale's ..." -- well, you know). We can also continue our long-standing women's lacrosse rivalries with Kent State, Central Michigan and Detroit! It's win-win!
