Video of Temple v BGSU 04/05 ?

Post by mh55 »

Every few years, I make a request to see if anyone has video of the shellacking BGSU put on Temple in 2004 or 2005. I'm pretty sure the 05 game was televised because I think I recall watching it. The 04 game was played in Philadelphia.
I even tried to contact the BGSU Athletic Dept to see if they had any game tapes but I never heard back...
Im a Temple fan, btw...

You might try contacting BCSN. They are the ones who typically broadcast home games.

I would call the BGSU athletic department and find out who televised it, that you want a copy, then work from there. I would hope they have an idea.

(In fact, honestly, I would hope the BGSU athletic department has a copy, since it owns the rights, but I don't know much about how that side of things work in a typical Division I athletic department.)

I was curious so I looked it up....we beat Temple 70-16 in 2004 and 70-16 in 2005. I know I didn't watch the 2004 game on TV...I was probably at the 2005 game. BCSN was doing the games back then....I have a s**t ton of 2000's BGSU games on dvd that I recorded off of BCSN in football and men's and women's hoops. When I can find the time...I'll look through my big box o'crap out in the barn and see if I have that one.

Glad that's been clarified. For a while there, I was thinking that '05 game had been a nail biter 8-)

They were both equally thrilling. IIRC, Dan Macon, who was our 3rd or 4th-string RB, scored the final TD of the 2004 game, on a drive in which every play was a run up the middle and they couldn't stop us. We basically just tried to keep the clock moving in the second half of the 05 game, but scored our last 2 TDs on an INT return and a punt return.

For my money, though, the WMU game one of those years (04, I think) might've been even more lopsided if our coaches had wanted it to be. We got the ball back late in the second quarter, already leading 42-0, and a simple handoff to PJ Pope resulted in a long, long TD run to put us up by 7 touchdowns at the half. In the halftime TV interview, WMU's coach (Darnell?) said "this game is over" We won 52-0 because we emptied the bench and ran the four corners offense in the second half.

Gary Darnell was WMU for 7 years ending in 2004.

Here are the stats from that WMU game in 2004, from the BGSUFalcons site:

http://static.bgsufalcons.com/custompag ... /bgwmu.htm

BGSU had 7 first-half drives, resulting in 7 touchdowns. The last was a 1-play, 88-yard drive. We had some explosive offensive teams during the early part of the 2000's.

Wasn't this Temple game the one where we were attempting to run the clock out at the end of the first half, ran three identical run plays up the middle, and scored on the third straight running play for 60ish yards?

I think Darnell even thanked Brandon in the post game press conference for calling off the dogs at halftime. I do not have a Temple game from either year...I do have the WMU game. I need to xfer that off of my dvd and upload it to youtube.

I was at that WMU game and you are correct, Flipper. I recall Darnell saying afterward that Brandon "could have named the score today". As that first half went on, the good feeling of seeing us have our way with the opponent almost turned to feeling sorry for them and wanting to see us call off the dogs. They were so overmatched, it was no contest. Pope made a heck of a run there at the end of the half, when all we were doing was trying to run out the clock.

That one was a far cry from WMU's prior visit to the Doyt when we escaped that one in overtime after trailing late. IIRC we had a blocked field goal at or near the end that kept us from losing it.

WMU beat us at the Doyt the very next year when they injured Omar Jacobs. They blew us out of the water in 2010 and 2011, and beat us in 2014 in a frustrating game. That blowout win over WMU in 2004 had to last us until 2015 when we beat them again.
It's still possible between all those listed games we scored more points ....
