One decade ago this weekend ...
Or with better announcers ....
That might be the single best BG game I've personally witnessed. BG stormed to an early 21-0 lead behind a surprisingly good offense while Minnesota for some reason decided to throw it all over the place with a freshman QB and inexperienced receivers. Then in the second half, Minnesota remembered that they had a great line and running backs and took a 24-21 lead behind a bruising run game. BG came up with a late gut check game tying drive, Minnesota attempted a game winning Hail Mary that was picked off and nearly returned for a TD, and we want to OT where the rest is history. The game was thrilling, came down to the wire, and began a perfect bounce back season from a greatly disappointing 4-8 2006 campaign. What a game!

Perfect timing to post and interesting remark about their record and performance the year before.
Re: One decade ago this weekend ...
Minnesota had a lot of hype with Brewster as a first year coach. If I remember correctly, I think that was the first weekend of the Big Ten network?
I always love watching the teenager in the stands upset reaction while Sheehan was celebrating.

My group of friends make fun of that to this day. I don't know why, but it gets me every time.tiznow wrote:I always love watching the teenager in the stands upset reaction while Sheehan was celebrating.

The following year in late August BG took down Pitt at Heinz Field. Shut down LeSean McCoy in what would be Brandon's final year as head coach. Some good memories from the mid-2000s intermixed with a lot of disappointment.

Correct. The early game that day was Appalachian State's win over Michigan. They created that network to showcase that league and on its first day in existence, 2 of its teams get knocked off in their own houses by big underdogs. What a great day. Watching that clip never gets old.tiznow wrote: If I remember correctly, I think that was the first weekend of the Big Ten network?

I'm fond of this clip, too. (Not sure how to embed it, unfortunately.)

Those are both great, but this one is still better IMO being it was against a ranked Big 10 school on the road and how critical the play was late 4th quarter:

I was at both games as well. I grew up in Pittsburgh, so that win was especially nice. To be at Heinz Field rooting for the visiting team was odd, but awesome.Falconfreak90 wrote:Was at that Purdue game with Class of 61 as well as the upset of Pitt at Hines. Pitt was ranked and the experts thought Leshon McCoy would run all over BG. Based on the blowout loss in the bowl game where Tulsa ran all over BG.
Also BG fell behind 14-0 and then out scored Pitt 27-3. Kenny Lewis had a fumble return called back on an inadvertent whistle. McCoy ended up with about 75 yards.
I have a good feeling about Saturday. #rollalong

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

My favorite thing in my man cave is a framed close up of Harris as he releases that pass to Sharon, with the Purdue defenders lunging for him. I tried to post it here, but the file size is too large and I'm not smart enough to make it work.
