Is Jinks really making an extra $25k on BG's money games???
I came across a tweet the other day that said Mike Jinks gets $25,000 for every payday game of over $400,000 that BG plays. Is this true? And if so, why??? When I look at the staggering number of Power Five games we have in the next several years (most of them will be paying out anywhere from $900,000 to $1,200,000) with the understanding that we need some of them to simply operate, I don't understand why a guy who is being paid pretty close to a half of a million dollars a year, is also being compensated an additional $25,000 for games we need for our program. Now maybe that tweet was inaccurate, or even untrue. But if it's not, then it's pretty unsettling, and flat out disturbing now considering what we're getting in return.

If we receive $400,000 for such a game, yes .... see 4.1.2.a.10
Seems like a bad deal. No financial incentive to win those games, only play them. https://hkm.com/football/contracts/mike-jinks

Thanks for finding that. I have no problem whatsoever for the other 9 performance based incentives, but the last one has me befuddled. Why are we simply handing over that sort of money for simply playing - not winning - but playing a P5 school with a $400,000 plus guarantee? And here I was just annoyed at the large number of pay games with P5 teams we have in the upcoming years from a competitive standpoint, now come to find out our failure of a head coach (so far) is cashing in on them too at $25,000 per pop?! WTF?MarkL wrote:If we receive $400,000 for such a game, yes .... see 4.1.2.a.10

We should amend that last incentive to say the bonus money given for simply playing P5 teams must be paid back to offset the payout given to a FCS team if it comes in and kicks your ass all over the field. So, when BG is 0-4 in the non-conference this year, Jinks will be $50,000 richer and BG will have payed for a loss to an FCS team?! Yeah, seems like a good deal to me....SMH....

Because we HAVE to play them to pretend to be a player at the FBS level. It's a little bonus to the coach for beung firced to take an few extra ass kickings over the course of his contract.
It's stupid...but I think that's the rationale

That is a joke. His job is to coach BGSU and win. Getting a bonus for playing road paydays is borderline offensive. Just another example of why BG is the worst run athletic department in the MAC.

I bet Jinks isn't the only MAC or mid-major coach that gets a bonus for bringing in big money to the department for a potential whipping instead of getting a 6th home game that should be much more winnable. Before we make nasty comments on a message board it would be nice if a news outlet or the athletic department would give examples of comparable contract incentives at other institutions.

The problem with your statement: the coach doesn't schedule the games. If the coach was lining up our opponents for the foreseeable future, then I would be a little more okay with the bonus. But, the AD sets the schedule; the coach simply coaches the games on the schedule (unless I'm really out of the loop on the process).FalconTurf wrote:I bet Jinks isn't the only MAC or mid-major coach that gets a bonus for bringing in big money to the department for a potential whipping instead of getting a 6th home game that should be much more winnable. Maybe a better way to look at it is they're giving him a bonus to take a beating for the financial benefit of the department. Given the choice between a programs that takes 2-3 a year and another 1 a year this little bump may make the two programs equally attractive. I see why coaches may negotiate it and if others are giving it then we have little choice in the matter. I will be upset if we are the only ones doing this.footballguy51 wrote:The problem with your statement: the coach doesn't schedule the games. If that's the case (and it probably is), then what happens to the money if we win? If you're paying someone that kind of money with the mindset you're gonna lose, what if you don't? Yes, I know, I know, under Jinks we'll never know or have to worry about it. But if it's been in place prior, we've certainly won our share of those games too. (I already know the answer is they still keep it). And to be clear, I have no problems with all the other incentives. In fact, I like them. But this one seem bogus to me, even with the understanding of where it comes from.Schadenfreude wrote:Yes, I think that's about it.FalconTurf wrote:Maybe a better way to look at it is they're giving him a bonus to take a beating for the financial benefit of the department.

You think there would be incentives for beating P5 teams, not for bending over and taking one for the "benefit" of the program. Not sure how Jinks and his agent were able to coax that out of Kingston.

This was in Dino's contract as well and maybe in Clawson's. Not anything new. It's being done at many other places, especially for basketball coaches playing guarantee games.jpfalcon09 wrote:You think there would be incentives for beating P5 teams, not for bending over and taking one for the "benefit" of the program.
