Doege to start against MTSU?????

Post by gmartin »

So according to various media reports Doege took a considerable amount of reps with the 1st team. Coach Jinks stated the Northwestern game was for Morgan however he needed to see immediate improvement. Jinks stated that Doege is #2 and not Loy so if Morgan struggles against Northwestern I would expect to see Doege start next week against MTSU. Also wouldn't be surprised to see Doege gets some snaps against Northwestern if the game is out of reach. This is a tough game for me. Received my bachelor's from BGSU but my Masters from Northwestern. At least for me my team will come out winning tomorrow.

If there's any bit of truth to this actually happening, then he needs to play today vs Northwestern too.

So did he play in the second half? I had turned the game off.

Something needs to happen. Right now, this is a bad football team...and I'll be shocked if they win more than 3 games total for the year. Unless a change happens that provides a spark, or other adjustments are made.

Yes, I realize these aren't MAC teams, but BG did lose to a FCS team as well, so it's not like the problems are only being seen against Power 5 conference members.

After watching the first three games, I am seeing a team that continues to make critical mistakes that hurt themselves (something bad teams tend to consistently do) and not much in the way of adjustments to correct obvious issues (like getting burned over the top repeatedly).

I predicted BG to go 2-10 and I stick by that, with wins against Akron and Kent. We may beat Buffalo as they are a bad team but I will stick with my 2-10 prediction.

Doege played the last 10 minutes of the game. He did throw a few good passes. A couple drops. However no points. He finished 12 for 18, 90 yards.

I say 0-12 which is pretty impressive in the Mac east.

I think we will beat Kent State. KSU has no passing game. 203 yards passing through 3 games and that's against a D2 school and Marshall which ranked #117 last year in pass defense. Stop the run option and you will beat Kent.

If they burned his redshirt, he better be playing enough to justify it. Not sure he starts next week but I think he and Morgan split time with Doege eventually getting full 1st team reps towards the end of the season.

Got that right my friend...the RS is gone so he better play.

Being there in person, I felt like Doege threw more accurately than Morgan. He had a few jitters that would probably be expected of a true freshman facing a Big Ten team, but I felt like they moved the ball decently well. I've been a big time Morgan defender, but after watching him in person for the first time, it's clear he isn't on the same page as his receivers. I hope to see Doege get the start against MTSU.

I was there as well. Doege was better, and it wasn't that close. His throws were more accurate and he showed more vision. A couple drives before he was pulled, Morgan stared down his receiver the entire play, almost getting picked off. Doege accomplished more in garbage time -- twice leading us into field goal range -- than Morgan did most of the night.

I'm really glad Jinks gave Doege some time under center, despite the red shirt. It was the right move. He is the future. Morgan has had time to proven he deserves the job, and he hasn't gotten it done.

I hope Doege starts from here on out. This won't solve everything but it will make a real difference.

Just remember that Doege was playing against the Northwestern 2's and 3's, so I' holding my "excitement" for a week or too.

May as well play Doege most or all of the MTSU game to see what you've got. The redshirt's gone for 2017, so go crazy. If Morgan turns out to be a late bloomer and suddenly turns into the second coming of Brian McClure, you can always redshirt Doege next year.
