So in two years, Jinks has made the choice to forego experience (Knapke) for a stronger arm (Morgan)...and now has pulled the redshirt off a true freshman and is (apparently) hoping he can provide the offensive spark Morgan could not.
I'd say our head coach is flailing right now.
And given how the team has performed (or rather not performed) so far, it's not exactly a surprise.
I fear that Jinks will go down as one of the worst hires ever in football at BG -- and with some of the history there, that's saying something. With a switch at QB, we may see Jinks go "all in" with youth and begin playing even more of his own recruits, figuring if he's going to lose this year, he may as well get them experience, so there's at least a chance they'll improve next season.
I had predicted 3 wins max for this team...and said that might be high (Akron and Kent might be the only games they realistically have a shot at winning)...and it's possible if Jinks opts to go with youth, we could see a 1 or 2 win team.
That should NOT be happening in a program that was in 3 straight MAC title games in the last 5 years. The only reason it does happen is because the head coaching hire was off the charts BAD.
Schools like NIU, Western and Toledo seem to be able to find young coaches and replace them with other good, young coaches when a bigger program snatches them up. It can be done; but your AD has to be a lot smarter than the guy who hired Jinks.
As for the argument that BG simply doesn't put an emphasis on funding sports or trying to make the overall program better: I know for a fact that's not the case with this AD and his staff. They are constantly working to get donors to endow scholarships that can bring stability overall, not just to any one sport, but the entire program.
It won't happen overnight, but it IS moving in the right direction.

I haven't been able to stomach a full game this year. Not even close. Last week I couldn't make it out of the first quarter. Last night I couldn't make it intil halftime. Thankfully there was a damn good boxing match to watch. In just over a year BG football has gone from a passion of mine to something I almost can't even stand.
Louis Orr slowly made me feel this way about BG hoops, but it was a slow and painful separation. Mike Jinks (and his results) has stripped me of BG football like tearing off a bandaid. There's been no long, downward spiral like it was under Orr. Hell, we already weren't any good before Orr took over, he just helped to make us worse. Jinks inherited a Championship program and drove it right into the ground so fast your head would spin.

GO BG!!!
Re: Northwestern
Jinks didn't run this program into the ground by himself. I blame the Athletic Department and its low budget into the program. Yes these kids are getting a free education, but nothing more. The Athletic budget is last in the MAC and only compares to a D-2 school.
They travel and eat bag lunches after each game. These kids just played a Big Ten team and all they get is a Chicago style Pizza. That is horrible!!!!. No money for extra staff to help the kids with school work.
You can make all the excuses you want, but if we are going to play the D-1 schools then treat your teams and players like one. That is why Jinks is here and Babers is where he is.

Football has no excuses. They may not be the highest funded football program in the MAC, but they are up near the top of the conference. I don't care what Moose says to the Blade, our football program is not underfunded for the MAC. ADs can twist the numbers every which way they need to. Bottom line, BG Football isn't dealing with some budget crunch that is preventing them from being competitive.hiway44 wrote:Jinks didn't run this program into the ground by himself. Come over to the east side of the stadium and watch what other schools bring in. I have seen Chick-fil-a box lunches. I'm not sure what you want for the team but I don't believe you'll see many steaks and lobsters even when an Indiana visits.hiway44 wrote:Jinks didn't run this program into the ground by himself. I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.
Re: Northwestern
The very notion that our football team went from a perennial MAC title contender to the crapper because we don't feed our players well enough is probably the funniest thing I've seen posted on this board in quite some time. Probably since the last time Flip chainsawed himself.
Stop, just stop.
Wanna argue that he needs time to get his players in here? fine
Wanna argue that he's learning on the job? Fine.
Trying to blame it on the BOX LUNCHES that our players eat on the road? Please....

Re: Northwestern
Toledo has hired from within their own staff with the last two hires so they maintain their continuity with their offensive philosophy which hasn't changed in many years. That's why they are able to maintain their level of success. They have a formula that generates points and continues to do so because every player no matter the year has known the same offense from Day 1.Falconwriter wrote:

As to the TV broadcast on the Big Ten Network, what did everyone think of Lisa Byington? For it being her first game, I thought she did an outstanding job. In fact, I think she's already better than Mowins is.
Chuck Long was pretty bad though. And how hard is it to say Bowling. Green? It's so annoying to hear it called Bowlinggreen. Two words people!
