It will be good if he plays. Seem like he is more of a running type qb. That is what we may need? However Coach Jinks boys, Miller, Garth, Redding and Guyton have let him down big time! These were the guys that were hyped up all year. They were supposed to be JC studs? Not seeing it yet. Cannot put all the blame on Morgan.

Doege is far from a running QB. Not sure where you are getting your facts. I think Morgan of the two actually would run more so that tells you how little Doege will be running. Doege senior year of high school he passed for 3300 yards and averaged only .7 yards per carry.

I don't remember if Doege actually ran the ball, but he seemed more comfortable throwing the ball while scrambling a bit. I don't see that with Morgan. Also, to factman's point: while Doege was playing with backups on both sides of the ball, his throws did seem more on target. That was the magic of that fourth quarter. I'm looking forward to this Middle Tennessee game.

Yeah, Morgan has been consistently sailing the ball over the heads to Guyton and Redding on 10-15 yards outs. Guyton is 6-5, Redding is 6-2, and both can jump. And they didn't have a chance on many of the throws. When you have an athletic guy who is 6-5 that you can't connect with on short to midrange throws because you're sailing it on him, you clearly have control issues. Jinks has said each of the past two season that Morgan "can make all the throws." That may be the case, but on game days he sure likes to stick with inaccurate, bad ones.

I believe Doege had 6 rushing TDs either as a junior or senior in high school, so he can run. His Hudl video has a couple examples of him breaking off long runs. Rushing yards for QBs are deceiving given yardage lost on sacks. He appeared last week to be a little bit quicker than Morgan, albeit in garbage time so we'll see. It would be nice to have somewhat of a dual threat at QB just to keep defenses a little more off their toes.

Jinks said today that both QBs are playing Saturday which I believe is a mistake.

Let's hope he means we'll have a clear starter, and the backup will get plenty of snaps in garbage time because we're up by so much... :D

I disagree. We have nothing to lose. He's still young. At least give Morgan the chance to see if he learned anything from his benching. He's clearly got talent and a big arm. To me, he still hasn't learned to put more touch on the ball instead of throwing fastballs on every play. And we have not seen enough of a sample size yet to see if Doege is the answer yet either.

Why not use this game as a further audition to see who the starter will be come MAC play?

The mistake to me would be to continue to use a two QB system the whole year.

I remember when Jinks pulled Knapke for Morgan and not noticing a big difference in the results we were getting. I saw a difference with Doege last weekend.

Knapke got pulled 5 minutes into the second quarter at Memphis. Of course it was already 42-3. Doege was brought in for the fourth quarter. Perhaps NW had already pulled most or all of their first string as well.

Plus Morgan had already seen game action at Ohio State and a short time against North Dakota.

According to Jordan Strack, Doege took all the first team snaps today in practice. I'd say he's starting Saturday barring an unforeseen circumstance.

Probably. I'm pretty sure Doege was working with other BGSU second-stringers on offense. Point his, Doege was accurate in a way that Morgan has struggled to be all season. Glad to hear he may be starting tomorrow.

I was there as well. Doege was better, and it wasn't that close. His throws were more accurate and he showed more vision. A couple drives before he was pulled, Morgan stared down his receiver the entire play, almost getting picked off. Doege accomplished more in garbage time -- twice leading us into field goal range -- than Morgan did most of the night.

I'm really glad Jinks gave Doege some time under center, despite the red shirt. It was the right move. He is the future. Morgan has had time to proven he deserves the job, and he hasn't gotten it done.

I hope Doege starts from here on out. This won't solve everything but it will make a real difference.
There are definitely people here who understand football better than I do. Even so, let the record show that I called this two days after watching Doege's debut at the Northwestern game.

Also, again: I wish James Morgan the best. He seems like a class act. I hope he finds a good fit somewhere and is wildly successful -- in football, in college, and in life.

Doege was obviously well coached before he arrived at BG. He's smart, confident and trusts himself in the pocket. The mental part of sports is usually grossly underrated and Doege seems to get it. Hopefully James gets the opportunity to prove elsewhere he can get the job done.
