Can we pretend we live in an alternate reality and bg hired Mike Elko as head coach after Clawson left?
Dino had some positives, the main one recruiting Lewis. IMHO, he and his staff are the reason why our defense went from nationally ranked (and holding a Dak Prescott led offense to zero second half points) to a complete joke the next year while losing no major pieces. I think we can all agree that Matty J and co. would've done fine without Dino's guidance.
If Elko would've been hired, we still could've landed Lewis, had a nationally ranked defense to go with our nationally ranked offense, and had a solid foundation going into the present. Would Elko have gotten hired away by now? Probably. But we sure as s**t would be in a better posistion than we are now.

I'm an old fan from the Clawson days (follow Wake more now but still stop by these boards from time to time because BG was a special place). The shame about this post is that Elko wanted the job at the time and would have been phenomenal in the role. Kingston wanted to put his own stamp on the program and wouldn't even interview him for the head job. It was devastating for many of the coaches at the time because those guys loved Bowling Green. Obviously The Babers era was short but fun but it will always make me wonder what could have been if Elko had gotten the chance here.

Hope the season turns around! Don't know much about Coach Jinks but I know the BG fans are great and would love to see happier days there again.

Thanks for the above quote.....it makes sense now. I sat across the aisle from his wife at the MACC and we had mutual friends behind me. At the end of the game she was crying and said they didn't want to leave, that they loved BG and had developed friends here. She went on to say that they tried but have to go where he can coach.

This irritates me. I was no fan of the Babers hire because I could see no logic in changing cultures of a solid foundation. Babers proved to be a nightmare and the replacement is leaving a great deal to be desired.

If you look at successful programs, they don't reinvent themselves with every coaching hire. They find a coach which fits the system; not a system which fits the coach.

We had solid and growing fundamentals, player performance on and off the field, and a program which was set up for years of consistent success.

I really hope the current Titanic will turn around but I have my doubts.
