We Hired a High School Football Coach For 6 Years!?!?!?!?
I still want Coach Jinks to succeed, and many of you probably knew this, but I did not. Coach Jinks is signed through 2020?!?!?! Who the flock does that!?! Seriously? How long is Coach Huger signed for?? Flock me! What the Flock is going on at BG? This flocking blows!

What length of contract would you have offered?
Remember you cannot offer less than a 5 year contract.

He did not have a resume worthy of becoming the head coach at BGSU.
If we were going to sign him, I'd say 5 is probably the better answer, but in the end the difference is negligible. Whether we sign him for 5 or 6 is really irrelevant. We cannot buy him out at any price.
Hopefully he'll get this thing figured out and start winning, because he's here for the foreseeable future.

I'm not going to fault Jinks for signing a contract that any one of us would. He did what was best for his career and for his family. All we can do is support him until he proves he can succeed or not. Here's here until 2019 at the earliest, and if things don't turn around I suspect the next two seasons of BG football will be the leanest we've seen in a long time. Kingston was stupid to offer a contract to a guy with no proven track record, then ultimately packed his stuff and left town.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.

Nobody should fault Jinks. I'd be happy to sign a six year, $2.4MM contract to coach BG!

Why is 5 years the minimum?Dayons_Den wrote:What length of contract would you have offered?

It's not. I'll sign a 1 year contract for 400k, yesterday. I think I can get over them firing me before I bring in several recruiting classes. We will also be playing 4 power 5 teams so I can pick up another 100k because my feeling are hurt that we got our asses handed to us.

I'd like to be optimistic and believe that Jinks will figure this out quickly, and bring in the right people and players to make BG football successful -- but the reality is that he should never have been hired, let alone given a six-year contract. That may go down as one of the worst moves by a BG athletic director in BGSU sports history.
Sad to see all the recent football success go down the toilet so fast, but it's what happens if you make the wrong hire and don't have the resources to correct it quickly.

Call me a cockeyed optimist, but I think he's gonna get things turned around. He got no help from Dino in terms of recruiting -- as we all know, Dino had one foot out the door the day he got here -- but his first two recruiting classes seem like they're pretty good. Since he'll be here for at least a few more years, I'm gonna root for him and his team to do well. What's the alternative, bitching on a fan message board every time someone throws an incomplete pass or gets tackled for a loss? That sounds tiring, not to mention pointless.

Optimistic, pessimistic what's the difference really? Yay Jinks is great or yay jinks stinks. We're 0-4 and have looked like one of the most unprepared teams in the country for 16 games now. He's not a division 1 coach or any of his buddies he hired.

I really hope Coach Jinks gets us going...but I've seen enough in 16 games to know we have a TON of work to do...and is this staff capable of getting it done? Jury is definitely out on that. One way to find out cuz we don't have the money to buy him out. If we want to blame anyone, it should be Kingston. It was a BiG risk to Hire Jinks in the first place.
