I'd be fine with this assessment if they actually look like they are practicing instead of looking like they first started playing organized football in August. Clawson might have went 2-10, 5-7 and 8-5 before winning 10 games but his team's were in games losing by 7 points or less quite often. The big knock or mine anyways on Clawson was he didn't win close games and was super conservative. I often questioned his in game coaching but the fundamentals and the foundation he was building was never much of question. With Jinks it hard to see anything trending up.moneymaker02 wrote:I think some of ya'll are severely underestimating at how empty Dino left the fridge. Dino came in with the talent STACKED from how good Clawson was. Clawson is a total program builder. Don't forget Clawson had a 2 win team and then brought in all the talent to become 2 time MAC champs with all his players. I don't we know if Jenks is a good coach yet or not. I can say that I know for a fact that Dogge is a better QB than Morgan at this point. Morgan just looks in slow motion this year with hid decision making and has been very inaccurate.
Is THIS the worst team in school history???

I will never buy into this notion that Babers left the cupboard so bare. IT doesn't look like he recruited as well as Clawson, no, but there was (and still is) plenty of talent here when Jinks took the job. I'm not a big fan of Babers actively recruiting his commits to Syracuse after he left here, but it happens.
When he got here Jinks did a poor job retaining talent. He lost his top 2 WRs who both had eligibility remaining, and I seem to recall other kids decomitting and others transferring out.
And, say what you will about recruiting rankings, but Morgan was one of the more highly touted QBs to ever choose BG. And I'm not really big on taking the word of "recruiting services" but at this point those services are the ONLY positive you can point to about Jinks' tenure. James Morgan aside, let's not forget that he inherited a Senior QB that had put up a 3000 yard season and went 8-5 as a sophomore under Babers. And last year he looked so awful that we we all wanted him benched, got our way, and now Morgan was so awful that we all want him benched.
I'm sorry, Dino didn't leave the cupboard nearly so bare as Jinks would like you to believe. Not Dino's fault that Jinks had no idea how to cook the ingredients he left him.

I don't think Jinks had much respect for the MAC...he thought he could just bring his buddies up from TX and they'd kick everyone's ass. The ass is on the other foot now...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I've always hated it when this excuse comes up, although it's usually fans and rarely coaches who say it (they seemed to know its bs). It's a terrible excuse for bad coaching.hammb wrote:I will never buy into this notion that Babers left the cupboard so bare. Bump. The gift Miami gave BG by fumbling at the one could only fool the foolish for one week. Ohio put things back into focus.
GO BG!!!

How could anyone have watched that Miami game and think we were headed in the right direction? We played just well enough to lose, then Miami literally handed BG the win.BGSU33 wrote:Bump. Check out the glass half full / glass half empty in the Ohio preview. For every good indication after Miami, there was a balance to offset it. The fact is we are a lucky play from 0-7. Kent just beat Miami and Buffalo just hung tight with NIU. Point is the play needs to get better or 1-11 is a realistic scenario. The play improved late last year so not all is lost.Clubber wrote:How could anyone have watched that Miami game and think we were headed in the right direction? Didn't I read that same message somewhere else. Lol
Re: Is THIS the worst team in school history???
Back to back years and we're making another run at it again this season.
GO BG!!!
Re: Is THIS the worst team in school history???
Can't wait to hear what Hiway has to say now. Another we will get better. Can't get much worse so I guess he is correct.
Re: Is THIS the worst team in school history???
Meanwhile the man who supposedly left the cupboards so bare and isn't a leader knocked off uneaten Clemson and followed it up by giving unbeaten Miami all they could handle.
I can't help but think jinks is our balance to the force from getting clawson and babers back to back.

Maybe we could hire Bruce Gradkowski next. He is a coach at Anthony Wayne now and has helped turn them around in one year!! NLL Champs. He only has 1 year experience let's hire him next.
