Our No. 1 QB

Post by Schadenfreude »

James Morgan played a lot better yesterday, especially during the first half. His ability to hit a couple deep throws was huge; this was a big part of our game that had been missing up to this point.

And yet, if you look at the final line, Morgan was only 11 for 25. Moreover, when he had to roll out or move in the pocket, his arm turned to mush.

Morgan made a case to get his job back, but I still think Doege is the guy once he's healthy. What do you all think, though?

I tend to agree. I think Morgan did a very nice job stepping in and he made a few nice throws, but even on his short TD pass to Wilcox and his long throw to Redding, the throws were behind the receiver. He over adjusts way too much. I think our offensive success was a bigger credit to the O-line and running backs keeping the defense honest yesterday.

He hit on less than 50% of his throws and his QBR was 50.4. That's not going to cut it

Morgan made some big plays and was a major reason for the win. However the biggest cause for the win was the improved running game. The line blocked better, Cleveland and Clair made big plays, and the play calling of the run game was better, including using tempo to assist. And of course some monster plays by Teo Redding.
Jinks will probably be coy about it but I bet Doege starts next week. Having a QB with starting experience is valuable. Morgan will make an impact on this season down the stretch I bet.

Doege is still the man going forward, he's built to run the offense that Jinks wants. Lots of Morgan's throws seemed to be pulled from Dino's playbook with man coverage go routes. He averaged 20+ yards per reception which is pretty ridiculous. Also helped that the run game was able to get going.

Looks like Morgan will get the next start. Doege still isn't ready to go.

I'm not sure. I almost want to burn this year and let Morgan start, while Doege makes a complete recovery. There's no reason to rush him back if he isn't healthy. Maybe we could also get a medical redshirt for him so he could get his year back.

And then we'll head into camp next year with a real competition for the starting job, and the best QB will come out on top.

I doubt his injury would qualify. He meets the requirements of injury happened before 1/2 mark of season and playing less than 4 games. Even 1 snap is considered a game but he didn't play in Game #1 or Game #6 so he qualifies there. The question is, would the doctor, specialist and NCAA rule his injury season ending. Yes he is injured but I think he could eventually come back so I wouldn't consider that a season ending injury.
