Another de-commitment
Re: Another de-commitment
That is indeed true
Re: Another de-commitment
Coaches struggling this much have not earned the right to pick fights with local media. Local media can help make a program - they also can break one.
Stupid stupid stupid. You want to make friends with press.

Indeed. The "fire Jinks" blather here and a lot of the rest has only made this situation worse.MarkL wrote:This right here is why I keep my criticism on the board as constructive criticism. Recruits and their families read these boards. I'd rather not pour fuel on a fire.
Obviously, any decommit is bad news. But 18-year-olds need to make the decision that's best for them. I still think Jinks can rebuild this team by recruiting some talented players into this program. And, as Mark has noted, there is a lot to sell. If you have enough talent, you may be able play right away here.

Re: Another de-commitment
The man is 1-7 this year...5-15 overall with some of the worst defeats in program history under his watch. They've been competitive this year against only the poorest of teams in FBS and a really good FCS school. He has NO thinnest resume of any D1 HC I've seen this side of Faust and hiring him was a complete shot in the dark.
A few of the VERY few people left in the world who give even the smallest of craps about this program calling for his job is hardly "blather"

If it makes you feel better, put Moose on speed dial and complain to him every day. Send post cards. Set up a robo dialer. Whatever.Flipper wrote:The man is 1-7 this year...5-15 overall with some of the worst defeats in program history under his watch. But complaining here only does harm. It only hurts the program. It does no good at all.

Right...because student athletes and their parents are so oblivious to reality that they can't spot the raging dumpster fire that is our program from a mile away...not to mention the numerous mid level D1 coaches out there pointing out how poorly this staff has performed when they make their pitch.

Re: Another de-commitment
I haven't complained as much as I should. Not because I'm worried about the ramifications, but because this program is such a steaming pile of s**t that it's not even really worth complaining about at this point. We all know we won't (or can't) make the necessary changes, but it's a mess.
But to act like this message board is worth even one half of one point of negative value? Pfft...please
Between Dino screwing him over and the fans hurting his recruiting it's a minor miracle that jinks doesn't cry himself to sleep at night!

...aaaand we can sit here all day and be all rainbows and puppy dogs things will get better optimistic and that won't make damn bit of difference either...it's an internet message board...a forum for discussion. No one form of conversation is more meaningful than the other because in the grand scheme...it's all meaningless.
But you go ahead and take the "moral high ground" if it makes you feel more...pure...as a fan.

I want a rainbow. Can we have a coach at the end of it?

Ok so where is some proof that being positive or ignoring reality helps recruiting then?Schadenfreude wrote:You have in no way negated my point though.kdog27 wrote:Exactly.Flipper wrote:Right...because student athletes and their parents are so oblivious to reality that they can't spot the raging dumpster fire that is our program from a mile away...not to mention the numerous mid level D1 coaches out there pointing out how poorly this staff has performed when they make their pitch.

Re: Another de-commitment
This. It doesn't matter what we say on a message board. When the team looks as bad as this team has, and is sucking the life out of the BGSU football program, I doubt it matters what is said in public by anyone, even the coach. Actions and (lack of) accomplishments speak much louder.Flipper wrote:Right...because student athletes and their parents are so oblivious to reality that they can't spot the raging dumpster fire that is our program from a mile away...not to mention the numerous mid level D1 coaches out there pointing out how poorly this staff has performed when they make their pitch.

Re: Another de-commitment
Not being too picky, but from what I read, Antwuan Johnson and Deandre Fitz-Henley are the top athletes on the recruit board (247sports), not the young man you listed above (Hargrove). Moreover, it's not really a decommitment if the athlete was offered by a slew of Power 5 schools. If BG spots a great athlete and offers him, then Power 5 agrees with BG's evaluation and offers him at a later date, then the best evidence of accurately selecting talent is committed players being offered by higher level teams after BG.
Last Year's Decommits:
Chris Katrenick...choose Duke
Noah Harvey...choose Michigan State
Travis Koontz...signed with BG but then went to Juco in LA (likely because of grades)
Moreover, every team has about 4 decommits a year, Alabama had 6 last season.
