F**king Chris Kingston...he had to go out and make the really BOLD hire to show what an absolute A level genius he is...a man so brilliant the norms associated with coaching searches don't apply to him. He's so smart he can just take a list of attributes and find ANYONE who fits them and plug them into the program and get results.

And BG is still paying good money to his hand picked hires internally, who haven't found better offers. Come to BG, where we give the employee all the leverage, and you have a lack of funds to blame for all your failures. Oh, and everyone leaves at contract end or by choice.
Re: Is THIS the worst team in school history???
Remember the quote Kingston used to regurgitate during every new coach introduction that went something like “every great coach...blah blah blah...from their past success.” Something like that. With Babers it made perfect sense. But with Jinks it was like huh??? The guy never even served as a head coach in college and - here’s the kicker - he wasn’t even looking to be our coach - we contacted him about it! He was literally sitting in his office when he got a call about the BG job. And this is where we are now after it.Flipper wrote:F**king Chris Kingston...he had to go out and make the really BOLD hire to show what an absolute A level genius he is...a man so brilliant the norms associated with coaching searches don't apply to him. Re: Is THIS the worst team in school history???
The Jinks hire was utterly baffling. Kingston had said Jinks did not have an agent. Which leads me to an obvious question: why didn't you pull a fast one on the contract and put some performance stipulation or some other get out of jail free card in the fine print?? Kingston probably could have gotten away with it and taken advantage of the situation: a guy with no experience and likely little knowledge about head coaching contracts is on the other side of the table.

Performance incentives are routinely written into contracts where the coach is paid a bonus when certain goals are met. I don't understand why that type of language doesn't work both ways in these contracts. They should have stipulations such as, if a minimum winning percentage isn't met after specified time periods, then there will be a pay reduction or the university has the right to terminate the contract without incurring a buyout. Seems like that should be a no-brainer. The university is the one with the cash in hand, so you'd think they would have enough leverage to get something like that in there. Even more so in this case, when it's a guy with no head coaching experience, in negotiations for his first head gig -- he would have almost no leverage.
Major fail on Kingston's part, first for the hire, second for not leaving us a way out if the whole thing went up in flames.

Don't forget his 3rd and 4th fails. 3) Bailing as soon as he saw the dumpster fire in waiting at the Spring Game. 4) Leaving BG with his people and not taking them with him.

Re: Is THIS the worst team in school history???
This team is pretty freaking close. I statistically looked at the last 4 comparable bad teams - last year's team, 2010, 2000, and 1988. The 1988 team started out at 0-5, had one RB break 500 yards rushing (just barely) and the leading receiver at only 622. Yet this team won 2 games and tied another despite only scoring 159 points ins 11 games. The 2000 Team got off to an 0-4 start. Only Beat Kent and EMU. Had a similar bad run game and scored only 174 for the year but a much better defense despite a 51-17 loss to Toledo. 2010 beat Marshall and Central, loss to Toledo 33-14 but had Willie Geter rushing for 718 yards and Kamar Jordan going for 1106 in receiving. Likewise last year's team did win 4 times and had 1000 yard rusher in Fred Coppet and a nearly 1000 yard receiver in Scotty Miller (Where did that guy go!!!). So of these I would go with 1988 as the previous worse. Neglected to say previously that one of their two wins was against a then 1-AA Youngstown State. So those are the yardsticks and right now I think I would venture that "Yes this is the worst team in modern BG Football history at this point in the season.Flipper wrote:..as to the original question...this certainly looks like the worst team I've ever seen and I go back a ways..

Agree. With each passing game, I get more and more pissed at him for such a risky move. I had really hoped Jinks would get it going but I've seen enough in 20 games to know this ain't gonna work. I left the NIU game after the 50/50 was announced between the 3rd and 4th quarters. That NEVER happens...but I figured I'd rather get home and see the Soccer team play Akron at Cub Cadet Field.Flipper wrote:F**king Chris Kingston...he had to go out and make the really BOLD hire to show what an absolute A level genius he is...a man so brilliant the norms associated with coaching searches don't apply to him. Dino didn't do us any favors when he left but this goes much deeper. This staff simply isn't qualified for this level.

Honestly the best any of us can do is let the administration know how frustrated, upset, angry, whatever you may be about the direction of the program, or supportive of the coaching staff through all this strife if that's your take. Call the AD, call the director of football operations, email either. Just let your voice be heard. Even if all they hear is that BG has passionate alumni who are upset about the program, that may be a difference maker.

No coach in their right mind would agree to a contract like that. They would be a few unfortunate injuries or calls away from getting fired.Beaker wrote:Performance incentives are routinely written into contracts where the coach is paid a bonus when certain goals are met. Re: Is THIS the worst team in school history???
No AD, athletic department, or president would agree to make a coach with no experience or agent, this highest paid employee on campus either. Oh wait. Atleast, no AD who would stick around to face the heat would.
Re: Is THIS the worst team in school history???
Yes, no coach who has a proven track record of success and has other schools knocking on his door, wanting to make him their head coach. Jinks didn't have that leverage. We were his only opportunity of being a head coach at that point, so the administration should have recognized that and negotiated a contract that gave us a parachute if the experiment failed. If Jinks had turned it down, then I'm sure there were other inexperienced, hungry young guys out there that would have signed a contract like that to get their first head coaching job. When you're taking a leap of faith hiring a guy without a qualified resume', I don't know that it's much more of a gamble to take one guy over another.daspollak wrote:No coach in their right mind would agree to a contract like that.
