I wish a reporter would have asked him this in his post-game interview. What is the downfall about a Hail Mary at the last play of the half. Doege can throw the ball 50 yards. Just throw it up for grabs. You get a penalty on the defense you may be able to then go for a 52-yard field goal. Not even taking the chance to me is stupid and lack of preparation again by our coaches
Maybe he didn't want to put his quarterback in a vulnerable situation again coming off an injury in which he made that mistake once. Forcing a patchwork offensive line to protect extra long so that wide receivers can get downfield isn't exactly the smartest thing ever. Especially up 20-9 and in control of the game.

I thought of why not taking a shot, but you're right. The chances of success are small, and the chance of catastrophic failure were small, so why risk injury when you're in control of the game.

Good point. Didn't realize til I got home from the game we had 10 for 73 yards. Such a shame that highlight reel catch by Redding was called back.

So did we get the Anniversary Trophy, or did Kent manage to lose it once again?

Figures...we play our best game of the season and I miss it . We KNOW we have a All-MAC caliber RB in Clair. It looks like we may have a QB as well. Wilcox looks like a gamer at WR. You will always have a shot in this conference if you have a really good QB. Pair him with a couple of WR's and a great RB and you win MAC titles. Assuming you can coach up the rest of the guys to be at least decent.

If the staff is learning as it goes ( a huge if) , we could be headed in the right direction. Assuming we survive the ass kickings we'll get in our money games
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Great to see one go in the win column. Very sorely needed.

Some observations:

- Where has THAT Teo Redding been? Granted, you have to have a QB that can get the ball to the receiver, but he sure seemed like he played with more fire tonight than I've seen all year.

- Our kick return unit looks pretty good. I guess they should be, given the amount of reps they've had.

- Clair is a heck of a talent. I pray he stays healthy. With all the season ending injuries that always seem to hit us in spring practices, I would have him doing nothing but conditioning in the spring and keep his contact severely limited in pre-season practices next year. He could be a special back.

- Why does Donovan Wilson not get more opportunities, especially on the goal line and short yardage? Cleveland is a good back, but at his size, I don't understand having him in there on the goal line and leaving Wilson on the sidelines. That makes no sense.

- Still way too many penalties. Very disappointing that we don't seem to be improving on that.

- Defense played with better energy and swarmed to the ball reasonably well, although they were helpless to stop the QB run in that 2nd quarter. At least they were able to change things up at halftime and do a better job on him in the 2nd half. We won the turnover battle, which is always key.

- I'm very glad to see a win, but this Kent State squad is bad, so I'm not going to get too excited about it. Buffalo and EMU are better teams and will be a much better gauge to tell if we are actually going to be an improving team or not. If we win those games, then there may be reason for optimism. If we lose out the rest of the way then the Kent game won't mean much.

For all the poor stuff this year...I give credit to Coach Jinks. He hasn't lost this team. Watch the victory celebration on youtube. We are as talented as most teams in the league. Doege was 14-18 for 174 yards, two TD's and NO picks. That ball he threw to Guyton was BEAUTIFUL and right in front of us. Perfect spiral and Guyton made a great catch. This QB race is over...no question Doege is the guy.

Clair needs another 10-15 pounds of muscle and he is gonna be special.

Maybe, just maybe a spark was set last night...build on it and win another one next week in Buffalo.

Clair looks like he could be a Damned good RB.
Doege is clearly the best QB on this roster. I get wanting to RS him, but it is clear he probably should have started day 1.

Outside of those 2 observations I'm not sure what else to take away from that game. I'm not sure how KSU won 2 games, but that team is absolutely putrid. They looked worse than the FCS team we lost to, for sure.

Still, glad to get a win. Hope the young players can use that as a confidence booster and we can win some games down the stretch. I really hope Doege can stay healthy the rest of the way because we need him to get all the experience he can. It's clear he's the starter next year and hopefully the foreseeable future.

Kent was hit pretty hard by injuries especially at the QB position. I don't think that said would result in more wins for them but they would be more competitive.

Yep. I had zero problem with him taking it to the locker room there.

This is true. They seem to love playing for this guy.

As far as the last play of the first half: I expected us to take a shot deep, but maybe this was about protecting a young QB and limiting the potential for a disaster. Doege played some good football last night, but he did make some mistakes out there (including a blatant intentional grounding play and the pick six that was negated by a Flash penalty).

Doege and Clair and are future stars. We will need to bring in some talent at WR though after Redding and Miller leave. I don't think we have had a rb with natrually as good of feet as Clair displayed last night. Some of those cuts that he made in the hole screamed next level talent.

Obviously a much needed win. It really should have been a blowout the way Kent was turning the ball over. The positive is that we won, but I don't think it proves much. Be more interested in the last few games to see how we respond against teams that at least compete a little bit.

Clubber, obviously nothing this team do will satisfied you. You play the schedule that you have. It's a great win! Something we can build on. Shows we are not as bad as our record is. Shows, we have the talent to win now and we should not have only two wins. Those responsible should be held accountable. Some changes are still greatly needed with the staff.
