Because this still pi**es me off

Rivalry game. Wednesday night. 8pm kickoff. TV timeouts. 5 hour game. Empty stadium. Leaving at halftime because you have to work the next day. MACtion sucks.

As an adult I understand this but when I was a student we loved this because the game was always the week of Thanksgiving break. So my first 2 years I wasn't able to experience our rivalry game until they moved it to a week day.

Sadly...nobody gives a f**k either way. We had a championship program and we pissed it away...

If anyone wants to watch a good high school coach in action, they can attend one of the playoff games this weekend -- not this crap.

Oh and a big thanks to Clawson, Baber and now Jinks for pissing away what had been a double digit edge in the all-time series with their "rival". It takes some damn poor coaching to accomplish that in such a short time. And yes, Clawson was a decent coach, otherwise, but he was John Cooper NW against Toledo.

This. Sadly, my obsession passion for BG football has been completely sucked out of my soul in two quick seasons. It took Louis Orr about five years to do it for me in hoops, and Jinks' product has done it in less than half of that time, which is pretty remarkable considering it grew and developed for over 25 years and had me making road trips from Moscow, Idaho to Gainesville, Florida and everywhere in between. I just simply really don't care about it anymore. It's brings me nothing but headache and heartache anymore in two shorts seasons and I just can't stomach it anymore. Two years ago as MAC Champs may as well be 20 years ago because it sure seems that way. We aren't even a shell of the team and program we were that shortly ago.

My obsession with Bowling Green athletics is much, much deeper than wins and losses. Am I passionate and pissed off about the poor performances of our football team this year? ABSOLUTELY. I'm frustrated, annoyed, angry, disappointed, and embarrassed. But my ties to the city of Bowling Green and the great institution of Bowling Green State University greatly outweigh wins/losses and what will be a blip in the overall history of the football and athletics program.

There's a reason I have shifted some of my "football energy" from the Browns to solely focusing on Bowling Green Football- because I know they are kids, they represent my town/university, and in the end college football is extremely cyclical.

BG football has allowed me to bond with my father (Class of '68) in places like Mobile, AL, Gainesville, FL, Annapolis, MD, provided an alcohol respite during my Bachelor Party weekend in Columbia, MO, and helped me introduce my obsession to my two boys. Even this fall when I flew from Florida to freezing cold Evanston, IL (alright so it was in the mid 70s, but it WAS breezy) I knew the chance the Falcons would win was slim to none, but sitting there with my dad and a childhood friend it was rewarding to me internally to see the burnt orange and seal brown run out on to the field.

Not posting all this to say "My fandom is greater than yours" but rather to let you in on how I view it so that I don't get emotionally burned when the team under performs. Again, not saying I'm satisfied or accepting of the current state of the program but I hope that a blip like we're currently in doesn't completely kill something you're clearly passionate about.

When we last won in 2009 (Effin eh), the series was 39-31-5. If you look over the last 20 years, ut has had our number as well. 6-14? Seriously? To their credit, they've been closing the gap since 1997 and are now level with us for the first time in my lifetime. Sheet like this happens in rivalries. BG won 12 straight over ut before. But we gotta stop the freakin bleeding.

I am with you on this, as I cheer for this team as a connection to the university that was the foundation to my adult life. When I watch the team play I get to recall all the great times I had in college. Am I upset they are losing, yeah, but I also know its a game. I realized this with the Browns, and if it ever got to the point where a loss ruined my week, day, or even hour, I would stop watching. Its the same with this team, I celebrate the wins and shrug off the losses. The way I look at it, if I wanted to cheer for a perennial winner, I would cheer for Ohio State. Instead I am going to continue to support and cheer for this program, win or lose.

Sports goes in cycles, esp if you are a MAC school like us who has a tradition of winning. We will always have the highest of highs and the lowest of lows because of the turnover that we will always have. Anybody could have seen this coming. You don't put out the talent that we had without expecting a drop off in talent. Even down in here in Charlotte I remember watching the Maryland game and one of my buddies made the comment of "who did these kill in high school to get to BG." He said this because he recognized their talent level was much higher than of a MAC program which I took as a compliment. We must set our expectations. Dino's recruiting classes were terrible. Jinks is proving that he can recruit the last 2 years but it still remains to be seen if he can actually coach. I've looked at these last 2 years as rebuilding years just like how Clawson had to have rebuilding years.
