Re: 2018-2019 Recruiting
Scratch off another one. DeShon Parker decided to play further away from home at James Madison. We do have a lot of competition at the PG position so probably a factor. Here's the link. http://verbalcommits.com/players/deshon-parker" target="_blank
That leaves just four to five reported offers left on the table. I'm getting more convinced that we may go JUCO later and also wait til spring on a developing project. Or maybe we'll just leave another open schollie on the table just to piss Globe off.

LOL. We only technically need 5 guys right?fredthefalcon wrote:Scratch off another one. DeShon Parker decided to play further away from home at James Madison. Really was hoping Parker and McNamara hit mainly due proximity to me in CBus. I could go see them play a bit. Not sure either were gamebreakers IMO. Will be fun to track them.
Is James Madison where our former assistant Louis Rowe went?

Re: 2018-2019 Recruiting
So we are down to 11 again with only 4 guys over 6-5. Which isn't great.
I wonder if there is any chance Hunter Foelkerstma comes back for the spring. He really wasn't terrible and will likely be done with his playing career.
Redding will also be done and might be available. He might have some chance to play professionally.
Both Ryan Hunter and Clark Clancy are Srs with size set to graduate as well.
And we have a scholarship available to give out for the spring semester

I believe today is the last day for the first signing period of the year. Looking more and more like we will carry the two open schollies into the Spring.

Re: 2018-2019 Recruiting
I was hoping we would nab one today but I am not overly excited about what I have seen from our 4-5 offers that seem to be out there.
Shooting Guard
1) Kiyon Boyd 6'5 210 Washington, DC, HD Woodson HS, (Offer 10-29-2015) 4*
http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/kiyon-boyd" target="_blank
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMCmpMmHiCg" target="_blank
2) Mikal Dawson 6'4 190 Huntington, WV, Huntington HS, (Offer 7-13-2017) 2*

https://verbalcommits.com/players/drew-peterson-il" target="_blank
http://www.hudl.com/profile/4992396/drew-peterson" target="_blank
May be a 2019
1) Ricky Lindo 6'7 Washington DC, Woodrow Wilson HS, (12-14-2016) 2*

This also brings to mind the question. How do you recruit when your roster is pretty good and young? If you are a recruit it might look like you won't play now but also might not play for 2-3 years in some instances (ignoring unplanned attrition) We had 2 Freshman look outstanding in the first 2 games. I am sure its done somehow (team culture, unplanned attrition) etc. I just am so used to having teams recruiting so devoid of talent that people can come in and contribute immediately. With Uju and Wiggins Srs a big makes a ton of sense. (More thoughts below)
2018-2019 2 scholarships available
1 Caldwell, Jr-Cummings, So
2 Frye, Jr- Lillard, Sr
3Turner, So(R)-Kulackovskis, Fr
4 Koch, So-Plowden, So-Uju, Sr(R)
5 Wiggins, Sr-Gadson, So
If we have depth I would love to offer Ross Ryan. Big who can run and now from a school that is rich with talent.
Ross Ryan 6-9 195 Xfer from Centerburg to Pick North

We have 2 scholarships to give away for next season, as I cannot fathom giving Good his scholarship for anything more than a "we had it available so here's a reward for your hard work this year" type thing. If he cannot get into the rotation I cannot fathom renewing it for the rest of his career.
But with this roster I don't know that we're likely to get anybody that is going to play right away. I would like to see another wing/forward athlete and another guard. Specifically, I'd still like to see a true facilitator type PG to put on the bench.

Re: 2018-2019 Recruiting
Here is another guy to consider
http://www.270hoops.com/news_article/sh ... id=2494498" target="_blank
Julian Malone (6'2 CG / Westerville North / 2018): It is great to see Malone back healthy on the court. Back in 2015, Malone was one of the area's all-around best guards in his class, but football injuries would derail his sophomore and junior seasons. Finally healthy and done with football, Malone looks like the physical combo-guard that we were in awe of going into his sophomore year. An athletic combo who plays a tough brand of ball on both ends, Malone does all the little things for North, in addition to being the team's unquestioned leader. The Warriors have missed Malone's toughness the last two years and with him back in the fold, this team will have a chance to be very good. Malone finished with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals on the night.

He looks like more of a 1 than a 2, being only 6' tall, he looks similar to Nelly Cummings. Looks really athletic, if you check out that dunk video. I don't like the way he doesn't elevate on his jumper though, they're gonna have to fix that. Overall he looks good, he's quick, handles it well, can drive with both hands, can really get off the floor and finish at the rim and although he doesn't elevate on his jump shot it's smooth and effective. He would be a nice player to give a redshirt to and space our PG's out a little bit.

Just looking at that video definitely didn't elevate on those jumpers, and also seemed like he took his sweet time to collect himself before shooting them.
Now the plus side, is most of those shots were quite long, showing some good range.
But I'll readily admit I have no idea how to spot a true D1 player from what they look like in HS, so I'll defer to the guy that has brought Cummings, Frye, and Caldwell here...probably the 3 best guard prospects we've had in 10 years.
I will say I really hope we find a wing to take our last scholarship. Can never have enough guards, so welcome to Mr. Fields. But I really hope we get another wing.

I think Globe is right...they're two different guys.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
