Canisius

Post by elmrfudd »

A fourteen point loss to Canisius, a disappointing effort, to say the least. Another poor third quarter in two consecutive games was the Falcons' demise today. Only 20% behind the arc, and that affects the all-around playing for the team. It pains me to say that today's effort showed vivid reflections of the last three seasons. We showed very little tenacity, especially in the second half, and low-post and three-point defense was nonexistent. True, we have a very young team, but they need to step up their level of play, or again they'll end up being the conference whipping girl. I know it's only their first loss, but we cannot and must not get comfortable falling back into a losing mode. It's time to coach and play with excellence, and for the coaches, AND the fans to begin to command and expect excellence from this team from this point forward! GO FALCONS!!!

Couldn’t agree more Elmer! That second half was brutal! It was like they all lost their confidence at the same time. I hope we don’t see another half like that this season.

This game was so bad we needed 2 threads. I guess the one I started wasn't good enough. ](*,)

Very poor effort the last 2 games actually.

Actually, gmartin, when I began my post, there was nothing up on the board about the game yet. So it appears we were typing our posts simultaneously. However, gmartin, yes, your thread IS good enough. I apologize for any confusion. Absolutely no offense intended here.

At what point in the game do you simply say no more three point attempts? When you go 5 for 20 (?) in the first half, how many more do you allow to be attempted and missed before you shut that down. We took entirely too many three point attempts when we were still in position to make a comeback.

Maybe if we went 4 for 20, or 5 for 21 we would stop shooting them.

I believe the reason why we take so many threes is because we are not strong enough and confident enough in our low post game to finish. To me, that's hard to understand with our overall height in the post positions. Many of our shots inside of five feet are merely bricks tossed up at the backboard without drawing iron. Where is our coaching staff when it comes to honing our skills in the paint, both offensively and defensively? Fine tune our inside game (and I'm not talking about the guards trying to take on the trees) and we can decrease our reliance on the three. It's really that simple.
