Time to make some noise in the rankings
Re: Time to make some noise in the rankings
Yes it's not even December yet but the split against Minnesota State moved us up to #11 in Pairwise rankings.
An interesting note, all 4 of our losses are against teams in the top 10 in Pairwise rankings (WMU, Michigan State and Minnesota State x2)

We're really cooking this year... I hope to see a lot of orange and brown in the stands at home games the rest of the year!

Outside the two L's to Minny state, I believe the two others losses were game tied late in the 3rd goals given up.gmartin wrote:Yes it's not even December yet but the split against Minnesota State moved us up to #11 in Pairwise rankings.

Home series verse JCrewU this weekend, need to sweep and singe game home verse Western a W would split season series. Then two game up in Detroit. Potentially to strengthen schedule and grab some big non-conference Ws.
Re: Time to make some noise in the rankings
With Bemidji defeating Princeton tonight, we have leaped Michigan State and now sit in the 10th spot in the PairWise rankings.

Started a 7 game home stand ranked 10th in the Pairwise after the 1st two games we've dropped to 23rd.
With 5 wins in a row ain't getting back to 10th .
Win the league title, until we can score NCAA at-large bids are a dream.

Dropping to 23 sucks, but it isn't the end of the world. Lots of hockey left to be played. Still in 2nd in the league by a single point.
My goal and sole focus right now is to take 3 of the next 4.

BG is up to #14 in the latest poll, still on the outside looking in the PWR at #17.
Northern Michigan will be the best team BG plays PWR wise the remainder of the regular season.

Re: Time to make some noise in the rankings
For those who like to crunch numbers here is where BG stands after the sweep of LSSU.
BG currently sits #17 in Pairwise just one spot from the top 16, however Holy Cross/Canisus of the Atlantic hold the automatic bid and their rpi is 40/31, so technically BG is currently 18.
Next week Michigan, Penn State and Northeastern, the 3 teams ahead of BG all play ranked opponents so I factored this with each of them splitting their series.
If the 3 teams ahead of BG split and BG sweeps Tech BG will move up to #13. However BG then has a bye week, as well as finishes up against AH and Alaska which even with wins will drop down our Falcons.
I believe BG could sweep its remaining 3 series and get to the Championship game and lose the Championship and squeak in. If BG wins its next THIRTEEN straight games we will be National Champs!

According to Playoffstatus.com your scenario holds up but we will need some help along the way. Note: At the time I posted this they had not yet updated our W/L from the LSSU weekend. Regardless, still seems like a very difficult road ahead. Need to win the Broadmoor.gmartin wrote:I believe BG could sweep its remaining 3 series and get to the Championship game and lose the Championship and squeak in. Re: Time to make some noise in the rankings
I posted this on the USCHO site and a rocket scientist from Huntsville who works on the space station confirmed it's the most likely chance (but unlikely) for the WCHA to put 3 teams into the NCAAs. While it's unlikely to happen, but it's the best shot. Here goes...gmartin wrote:I believe BG could sweep its remaining 3 series and get to the Championship game and lose the Championship and squeak in. The path to 3 teams:
o BG and NMU win out in the regular season
o Mankato loses 1 in the regular season
>>>>Final conference standings: 1-NMU (67), 2-MSU (66), 3-BG (64)
o BG, NMU, MSU sweep in the first round of the playoffs
o NMU sweeps in the second round of the playoffs
o BG sweeps MSU in the second round of the playoffs
o Hope and pray like hell that the right teams above us lose to the right teams at the right time.
Mankato, NMU, and BG are in regardless of the Broadmoor outcome.

Re: Time to make some noise in the rankings
Moved up to #14 in latest rankings. A sweep next week should place us at #12 as several teams ahead of us should lose due to their tough road matchups. Just keep winning. Need a sweep next week to try and secure the #2 seed.
Re: Time to make some noise in the rankings
BG comes in ranked #14 this week polls.
Pairwise, forget about it. Not going to happen. BG is currently 18. With whom we play this week, even with two wins it looks like we will even drop to #19 with 2 wins. What makes it even more difficult, looks like Canisus will win its conference, #36, and Boston College as well, #23. They receive automatic berths basically pushing BG down 2 more spots. BG would need to finish #14 in Pairwise and there is no chance of that happening even winning out.

Re: Time to make some noise in the rankings
Then we gotta win the WCHA tournament. So let's do that.

Re: Time to make some noise in the rankings
Canisius and BC clinch nothing by winning the regular season. Conference Tournament champions get the auto-bid. Otherwise, you said exactly what many of us knew weeks ago, regardless of what any of the predictors said. Gotta take care of the out of conference teams to even have a shot at large. 3-4-1 won't cut it.gmartin wrote:BG comes in ranked #14 this week polls.

To be eligible for the dance, teams must finish with a win % >= .500 and there are 5 teams in front of us who are not sure things, especially the 3 Nacho teams:
Before people drop a duke on me, I'm on the record saying it's still a ridiculously incredible long shot for an at-large. But there would be more than enough schadenfreude to go around should the vaunted Nacho conference knock a couple of their own out based on W/L/T.
