2018 Quarterback Commit

Post by BillyLP »

I don't see where this was mentioned before, but we received a verbal from QB Bryce Veasley on June 14th.

6'4" 220lbs Pro-style QB with offers from a group of other MAC schools, along with attention from a few bigger programs.

Is it me, or do we seem to have a lot of verbals fairly early?

(Others follow this more closely than I do. Perhaps this is normal.)

Glad to have all these commitments. Coach Mike Jinks and his team seem to be working very hard.

Looks like a solid one for us.

I love the job that Coach Jinks is doing. He has us set up pretty nicely for the next few years, so long as the talent pans out.

FYI - If you have Fox Sports Detroit, West Bloomfield is in the D1 title game on Saturday at 1.

Curious to hear if anyone watches this. His highlight video shows that he has a huge arm. A few throws easily travelling 50+ yards in the air, but not a ton of the short-to-mid distance throws. I'd be interested to hear how accurate he is in that range.

I already have it scheduled on my DVR. I'll try to report back on Monday. Of course their last game was a 9-7 three field goal win...so not sure how much we'll see. ;)

In the state final....Bryce Veasley: 15-of-32, 214 yards, 2 interceptions.

His team lost 3-2.....yeah...I know...3-2.

You mean 3 TD to 2 TD right?

Flip.

It should have been 2-0. Ron Bellamy, Coach of W. Bloomfield and a former NFL player, completely mismanaged the last 2 minutes of the half allowing Clarkston to kick what was the winning FG.

As far as Veasley goes, he seems to have a lot of talent...and a big arm. Perhaps too big? LIke Morgan, he seems to lack a lot of touch...but he's still in high school...so he should improve...of course with this current coaching staff, who knows.

And Veasley is huge. he reminds me a lot of Cam Newton, although he's not primarily a running quarterback at all. And he is pretty athletic and runs well...but again, that's against much smaller high school players.

He doesn't seem to have a lot of accuracy or touch on his deep balls, and from watching one game, it appears to me that his gaudy stats are more likely the result of his two top receivers rather than his talent alone. Both receivers have already committed to Wisconsin...and they're extremely good.

A QB with that kind of size doesn't sign with a MAC school unless he has some issues

I wouldn't...but we're a long way from the early 1980's. ;)

I agree with the assessment of where this kid is right now, but I am sure that Rising Stars will coach him up to be ready for the MAC before he gets here! He did have some great games against quality opponents from Oakland County and no matter what his stats were, beating Cass Tech is impressive. Check out his press from several different Michigan sources:

well...McClure didn't have the strongest arm...and he wasn't really athletic. Turned out to be a great MAC QB though
