After our bye week

Post by gmartin »

Well after Friday night games during our bye week the Falcons slipped down to 2nd place in the league. After the Saturday games we will more than likely be in a tie for 3rd, however we will have 4 games in hand against Michigan Tech. After the Saturday games BG will be tied Northern Michigan each having played 14 games. BG will be 1 point behind Tech but as mentioned have 4 games in hand. BG will however be 5 points behind Minnesota State and we do not face them any more this season so it's going to be difficult to make up then 5 points. BG remains at #20 In pairwise rankings.

BG and Northern Michigan have played 14 league games and Michigan Tech has played 18 games. We have an advantage against them and need to take care of their games with Northern. It has been disappointing that we did not have a six point weekend in the first half. It is great that we have not done worst than a split (3 points) in a weekend. Getting as many points in a weekend as possible is so important for the second half of the season.

It would be a big confidence builder if we could beat Western Michigan and split up in Detroit over the New Years. Looking at the schedule and the games in hand we have we should be able to finish top 3 in league.

However looking at Minnesota State schedule I notice they play 8 games combined against the 2 Alaska teams and host Northern. They have a favorable schedule and making up a 5 pt differential, albeit it's only a win sweep for us, and a losing sweep for Minnesota State it will be difficult. Even though a tie is better than a loss all our conference ties, especially the games that were tied late will be our downfall. Lots could happen over the next 10 weeks! It all begins against Western.

I still believe. Lots of work left to do, though.

Honestly, if we can stay in the top 2 of the conference, I like our chances to get into the championship game again this year. And with it being a 1-game, winner-take-all scenario, anything can happen.
