I like the resume!
Re: New DC hired with some name recognition
I like the hire. As long as everything from FAU is behind him and no problems arise, this is a great hire.

Some interesting stuff about him breaking a camera and alleged drug use as a head coach. Looks like he fought the drug use thing. AND the school even admitted he wasnt fired for it http://www.espn.com/college-football/st" target="_blank ... ident-says
No matter what I am all for second chances though. We are getting a former Nebraska DC

Pelini came to Boca Raton after serving four seasons as the University of Nebraska's defensive coordinator, a defense that was ranked as the best in the nation for a time during his tenure. In combined totals from 2009-11, Nebraska ranked second nationally in pass efficiency defense, fifth in passing yards allowed per game, seventh in scoring defense and No. 10 in total defense. Pelini's role in the Huskers' defensive dominance was recognized, as he was a nominee for the Frank Broyles Assistant Coach Award in both 2009 and 2010, and finished among the top-five each year.

Per the Sent Trib's Thomas "Cheese" Schmeltz' twitter feed...no deal in place as of now. The two sides have met...interest is there on both sides...but nothing's in place.
If the past is truly in the past...this is a great hire...EXACTLY what the staff needs...an experienced coach with a high profile name in the Midwest .
Maybe he'll bring this guy with him....

You guys. This looks like a *great* hire!
A successful defensive coordinator at Nebraska and Youngstown State? FBS head coaching experience? This is everything we could have hoped for.
(Assuming both sides close the deal, and it sure looks like they will.)

Agreed. This exactly fills the role I suggested in my season end post, even before Eliano was fired.
The mantra for next season: No excuses. The talent is there, and now they are all experienced. The two deep is full of guys with experienced playing time. We have a real defensive coordinator now. No excuses. 2018 has to be the year it all comes together.

Will this mean that more assistants are out so that he can pick his guys?

Re: New DC hired with some name recognition
Before this hire, it was reported somewhere that Jinks was planning to let his new DC bring on one more guy. Apparently, FBS is letting teams have one additional coach, so no one necessarily needs to get pushed out.Globetrotter wrote:Will this mean that more assistants are out so that he can pick his guys?
Re: New DC hired with some name recognition
I cannot say I actually specifically remember the YSU or Nebraska defenses during his hire, but assuming the off field stuff is all in the past this is a tremendous hire based on resume. A previously successful DC with HC experience. This staff has badly needed some legit college coaching experience and this hire adds exactly that.
Right now it looks like a HR hire.

Re: New DC hired with some name recognition
Schmeltz told me via Twitter this isn't a done deal as Pelini is talking it over with his family.
EDIT: As I typed that, it's officially a done deal.

Great hire!!
Anyone else thinking this may be the prep work for a possible in-house Jinks replacement after next season?

Jinks is hiring the guy. Would he really hire his own replacement? Think about that.slashba33 wrote:Great hire!!

ROLL ALONG!!!
Re: New DC hired with some name recognition
His 2017 defensive unit allowed just 19.7 points per game, the fewest by YSU since 2007. Also, YSU was in the FCS National Championship game this year.
He also was a former Ohio HS coach which may help recruiting in Ohio. Also was a head coach in Florida once again may help in recruiting. We all read about his past problems. Let's just keep him away from all the bars.
