Peliniites, Pelinians, Peliners...coaches who we might hire

Post by Globetrotter »

1. Dick McNutt: http://www.ysusports.com/sports/fball/c ... d?view=bio" target="_blank
Lots of Ohio connections and a former OSU player. Seems like a no brainer. Wonder

2. Pete Rekstis: http://www.gorhody.com/sports/m-footbl/ ... e?view=bio" target="_blank
Current Rhode Island DC. Was Pelini's DC in FAU and the other coach who was let go for allegations of drug use.
From Cincy, Went to YSU, coached at Akron and Miami (oh)

3. Brett Dierson: http://www.niuhuskies.com/coaches.aspx? ... h=football" target="_blank
Current NIU DL coach and recruiting coordinator. DL Coach for Pelini at FIU.

4. Ross Watson: http://utrockets.com/coaches.aspx?rc=323&path=football" target="_blank
Current Toledo Safeties coach, appears to have coached with Pelini at Nebraska, FAU and YSU. DBs coach for Pelini at FAU.

5. Jeff Sims: http://www.gobroncbusters.com/sports/fb ... s?view=bio" target="_blank
Current Head coach at Garden City Community College. Associate Head Coach for Pelini at FAU.

Dick McNutt is a hell of a name.

In all seriousness, I would be intrigued by most of these, although I think Coach Rekstis would not be a great hire from a PR standpoint. I'm also not convinced Sims would be a homerun hire, either.

If I had to rank a top 3, it would be:

1. McNutt
2. Watson
3. Dierson

Asst Secondary coach at YSU. I am hopeful that our secondary coach isn't the Asst secondary coach at YSU but I know that we are adding 2 guys so he makes sense.

I think it will be him or McNutt along with a guy who can coach the DL. Pelini worked with LB's before, McNutt/Marlowe handles the secondary, throw in a DL guy and the whole D get's the Pelini influence...or you might see a more experienced guy like McNutt paired with a younger CB coach. Eliano handled the safeties and Mickens the CB's...so our secondary staff is due for a complete overhaul.

Re Mickens..this is second more or less lateral move (Idaho to BG to Kent) he's only 30...but he needs to find a place where his career can get some loft
