Lost to Ball State week 1 62-72,

Its our second Star Wars Day. Last time we lost 76-91. Not good.

My prediction? Pain. EMU hasn't lost at home and have 84 blocks on the year. We have some mini guards that like to drive the lane and throw up garbage and a passive post that can't be touched or he falls to the ground. This team has 84 blocks on the year already. They are not a good 3 point shooting team though. Run a zone? If we win it will be because we hit our threes.

EMUs roster

3 Paul Jackson 6'2 175 JR 14s 15.9p 2r 4.6a
1 Tim Bond 6'7 160 SR 14s 9.6p 3.9r 2.9a 15blocks
5 Elijah Minnie 6'9 200 JR 14s 17.1p 6.1r 22blocks
15 Jordan Nobles 6'8 195 JR 7s 4.6p 3.2r
2 James Thompson 6'10 240 JR 14s 15.8p 11.5r 20blocks

4 Terry Harris 6'6 215 JR 7s 3.5p

That "passive post" went for 15 and 11 vs a pretty big team. Not sure why some of you are so critical of this kid. No, I don't think he's a superstar, but has improved in most areas each year.

Did you watch him. If you body him he falls apart. He is so close to being a total stud and it seems like it's all aggressiveness.

BG got Wiggins late after a coaching change for a reason. His production from where he was in high school is a credit to the coaches and him for his development. I look at the numbers, and what he gives as a positive. On the other hand, this team could use Worrell if for nothing other than his 5 fouls and protection for Wiggins. The backup bigs on this team bring very little.

I don't understand why we didn't try to penetrate on the zone d and then pass out.

Yup. Not sure I've ever seen a bg player who was more frustrating to watch while actually putting up decent numbers. And I don't mean guys like Samarco or Crawford that put up points on poor efficiency. Nearly every state you look at with Wiggins looks good but man you hate him if you actually watch the games.

I think some of it stems from the fact that he's a relatively soft/passive player. He's still quite effective on the whole but just not what we think of when we picture the prototypical big man. I would venture he's lost close to 75 points in his bg career on blown layups where he could have flushed it with 2 hands. He doesn't bring much at all on defense, whether on the ball or bringing help. And he's not a particularly Stout rebounder either.

But he does seem to hustle and still get his double digits rebounds many nights. Even though it seems like luck he does seem to do well with that jump hook. And he's really worked himself into a competent free throw shooter.

I really think the frustration stems from seeing a guy with his size and athleticism not ever really dominate the way you'd think he should. He's a solid player, who looks like he should be a star, but rarely plays like one.

Wiggins is NOT a complete player. Hopefully he eventually will be but I agree with guest44 he has come a long way from his apparent recruiting status in HS. There are moments of frustration but I like to look at his development and the development of this team as a positive. It would be great if BG were to recruit polished players but right now the program is not at that level.

WiGGINS hustles and appears to care about his performance (he seems to know when he didn't get the job done and expects more). For these reasons and the fact he's a Falcon I like him as a player although I am far from nominating him for our hall of fame at this point. Get a degree and continue to improve he will be a BGSU success. Get aggressive and improve defensively - this team will be a contender next year. I hope it ALL comes together for him.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

D Wiggins is a true team leader in his own way, a top character guy, a hard worker in practice and weight room, truly cares about his academics and represents his family, his team and our university in a first class manner. Every day.

His progress from the day he moved in til today on the court has been absolutely exceptional. If you saw him play a couple full games in high school and you see him vs James Thompson Saturday etc, you can understand three things. How clearly Michael Huger could see his potential when essentially no one else could. How hard he has worked since that move in day. And his potential to continue to improve as he completes his career.

There is no question he is one of the great success stories for BG basketball over the last decade as far as going from his starting to point to his current point.

That is determination, coaching and work ethic.

When folks say he doesn't block enough shots, finish strong enough, rebound aggressively enough, I understand. He physically looks like maybe he should do more of these things.

But to me, I am only concerned about D Wiggins continuing to improve incrementally from here and continuing being D Wiggins. Every BG team can use more men and women like this guy.

Go Falcons!
