Outscored 22-11 in the 3rd, and we committed 9 fouls in that quarter. BG now trails Akron 43-46 to start the 4th.

BG wins. Enough discipline to beat the bottom team in the division, but not much more than that. Still a W is a W

Re: BG v Akron
They tried to give this away. Santoro became the one (wo)man wrecking crew. Had to after the 22-11 3rd quarter beatdown.
Lambert had a reasonable game. Now if she can sustain it.

OH MY! We looked terrible against another MAC cellar dweller! Again, another display of offensive and defensive anemia in the paint. Santoro needs to practice a few hundred free throws. I wonder how such a good shooter can be so inconsistent from the foul line. We let them shoot wide open threes all night, and we continued our stupid fouls and turnovers. We came real close to losing to the conference’s worst team! We don’t have bad players, it’s just that we have a team full of good raw talent, who are not reaching their full potential, and while playing, are just doing a lot of stupid stuff! Granted, a win is a win, but if you can’t dole out a loss to the bottom feeders of the MAC by more than a field goal, how can you compete with the better teams? We’re in the middle of the season now, and we look more pathetic now than we did earlier on. And it’s all because of poor coaching, and I’m not talking about coaching schemes and game plans. That’s not where the coaching issues lie. Our coaching staff is doing NOTHING to make our players fundamentally sound and developing their skill sets! That’s where the poor coaching lies! I am still rooting hard for this team, but it’s getting real old watching this team play like everything less than Division 1 women’s basketball. I’m sure that I’m not the only fan that gets embarrassed by the way this team plays basketball!

I'm wondering about her FT shootING ALSO; but I'm not sure I'd call her a shooter. Rather, she's more of a scorer, who gets a lot of pts. on drives to hoop, as opposed to shooting 3's, or even midrange jumpers. I'm sure they keep stats on this. I only have seen them via my I pad on ESPN3. But we're heading back to campus to see the Sat. Doubleheader. Hope to see a better effort vs. OU; men take on CMU in 2nd game.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
Re: BG v Akron
I agree with you, Class of 61, about Santoro being a scorer, to a point. To me, a shooter is not adept at scoring off the dribble, or penetrating to the rim and finishing. They post up, square up, and fire away. Santoro is definitely a scorer, as she can find a myriad of ways to put the ball in the hole. But you can’t be a scorer unless you have the ability to put the ball through the hoop at all ranges, in all places. That includes the charity stripe. Former Falcon Lauren Prochaska, who holds the NCAA record for most consecutive made free throws with 75, has said that making free throws is all about repetition, shooting the same way all the time. Santoro is 67/100 from the stripe for a mere 67%. Haley Puk leads the Falcons at 81%. Foul shooting is all about repetition and practice, practice, and more practice. Missed free throws can and do make a difference between wins and losses. Caterrion Thompson is also a scorer, but the last two or three games she has been rendered ineffective. She needs to find away to impose her will and start scoring again. Cecil has the ability to take charge, but needs to so more often. These ladies, I believe, need to be told by the coaching staff what is expected of them when they’re on the floor, but I’m not sure that’s happening.
Re: BG v Akron
I know Carly's been shooting her foul shots the same way "forever", but it might be a useful experiment to practice a shot without the jump in it. Maybe she'll find a steady base is better; maybe she'll feel more comfortable with her current style after trying something else for a couple days.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

Re: BG v Akron
I agree they need to work with Santoro and foul shouts. I cannot believe that it is more than a minor adjustment. However when you look at her stat sheet and see she is leading team in rebounds for sure...possibly steals and assists (not sure on that) I feel like that is taking away from her ability to score...make foul shots....I do think having the big posts will help her some.
As for Cecil she has been struggling in MAC play. Defensively she is and in turn getting her in foul trouble. Caterrion is still very streaky and I imagine consistency will come with experience.
Yet to see a game where the whole team is gelling. Very inconsistent.
Also Akron was missing several players.
