Where BG stands with 1 month to go.

Post by gmartin »

About a month left in the regular season. Let's see where BG stands as of 1/21

In Pairwise, BG is currently 18, and dropped a spot this weekend even after sweeping Alaska. Even with a sweep next week against the Lakers BG will drop yet another spot and also be passed by Northern Michigan. Furthermore if playoffs started today Canisius would get the automatic conference bid and their pairwise is 31. With that said after next week BG pairwise could be 20, but technically be holding down the 21st spot due to Canisius automatic berth. I haven't figured out what happens if BG were to win and if the teams from the 12-20 range were to lose. So as of 1/21, Pairwise looks bleak.

So now let's get to the WCHA standings.

Minnesota State 43 pts 20g
Northern Mich 43 pts 20g
BGSU 40 pts 20g
Bemidji 36 pts 18g

MSU, NM, and BG all have 8 games remaining (BG only has 2 home games, MSU has 6 home. 6 HOME games left, and plays AH. NM has 4 games and plays both Alaska schools and AH.)

Catching MSU and NM will be pretty tough. Bemidji has 2 games in hand, so they could catch us.

1 month remains in the season.

Forget the Pairwise. 3-4-1 out of conference means that's a wasted opportunity.

Conference games left, BG is 1-0-1 against each team left on the schedule except Anchorage, obviously. Winning out is not an unfeasible result. Then again, missing out on a few points is very possible as well.

Yeah, there's pretty much no way we are getting an at-large bid.

We're up to #15 in the USCHO poll this morning, so it's clear that there are people that believe in us. We just HAVE to win the conference to get in. Tough task, but I believe in these guys.

And looking at Pairwise and Standings, Northeastern currently holds the conference lead and is in Top 10 Pairwise but is only leading conference over BC and BU by 1 point. BU and BC are in mid 20s pairwise so if they win league Northeastern will probably still make it, taking away another at large opportunity.
