This is a non related basketball or even football question but an ESPN3 Question.
Why is it that most commercials on ESPN3, especially car and bank commercials are from the Miami Valley/Southern Ohio area. What good does it do showing banking and buying a new car from Southern Ohio when we are watching BG telecasts. It was that way in football and been that way in broadcasts of men's and women's basketball. The MAC offices are in Cleveland so if anything I would think they would show commercials for NE Ohio. I know random question but I was just curious.

Re: ESPN3 Question
I think the ads you see are intended to be relevant to where you live. I seem to remember seeing some Chicago-area ads for some of the football games I watched last season.
It may be that no advertiser has expressed an interest in targeting Indianapolis, so they are showing the Cincinnati/Dayton area ads on the theory that some people in Indiana might care.
Someone may understand this better than I do, though.

Re: ESPN3 Question
Probably because nobody up here is willing to pay for any advertising on ESPN3. They have to fill the space with something and they're probably the closest.

Re: ESPN3 Question
Figuring out what ESPN3 is and how they're going to utilize it is probably the key...long term...to ESPN's survival as a "thing"

I believe part of it has to do with your location when you are accessing the content as well as what cable subscriber you used to log-in to the content.

Re: ESPN3 Question
ESPN3 ads are pumped to you based on your internet provider and targeting happens based on location software and IP address. I live in Florida and watched all BGSU football games that were on ESPN3 this past year and didn't see any commercials for Ohio based companies.

I see some commercials for SE Michigan based businesses when I watch the Wu Tang Kung Fu channel on Roku;. I chalked it up to some sort of Shaolin Temple magic...but it could be driven by my ISP and location
