Re: Career Watch: Coach Roos
I had a chance to watch defending D-2 national championship Ashland play on TV last nite. This is a SOLID FUNDAMENTAL TEAM that pretty much does everything right. They can all shoot, handle the ball, pass etc. Beat Tiffin 115 - 60 or something like that, their 5th game In a row w/ 110 pts or more.
I mentioned a long time ago perhaps there's a potential coach right here in Ohio we need to look at. Maybe it's really time to do it.
BTW, Ashland is now 57-0 since last year.

Re: Career Watch: Coach Roos
I believe Roos is a great recruiter and has an eye for talent but only an asst coach and not HC. I wouldn't be opposed if BG went a new direction and asked Roos to stay as an asst coach (if new coach was willing)
Re: Career Watch: Coach Roos
Serious Question: Has there ever been a D1 coach in, lets say the past 20 years, Men's or Women's Basketball, that accepted a demotion from Head Coach to an Asst Coach and got the blessing from the new head coach and stayed with the team??gmartin wrote:I believe Roos is a great recruiter and has an eye for talent but only an asst coach and not HC. Re: Career Watch: Coach Roos
I was replying to Class61 post. I seen Ashland play. They have won 60 plus straight games. That's at the D2 level. Most HC coaches wouldn't take a demotion but if Roos knows her time is up and if getting a new gig isn't likely maybe she would stay. She has been at BG nearly 20 years. I remember Coach Miller saying after he took the Indiana job that Roos was one of the best recruiters in college basketball, men or women. She won the next few years after Miller left but I believe that's because those girls were taught the right way, under Miller. Once its been only Roos recruits we've struggled. The talent is there. We have some good players just don't reach the fundamentals. So if BG were to bring in a new coach maybe Roos would take a demotion and stick around. Better than not coaching anywhere.

Unlikely for this to EVER happen...but if we COULD get the Ashland coach I think her husband is her chief asst.gmartin wrote:I believe Roos is a great recruiter and has an eye for talent but only an asst coach and not HC. Can’t have that at BGSU. Nepotism not allowed.

Well, we've made it to the end of January. Roos started 54-16 and now stands at 91-89, 42-56 in the MAC.
That two year extension is looking pretty stupid now. We ought to call that the Orr extension.

Team looks flat. Not much enthusiasm from the players. Think Roos and staff sucked the life out of the team as they have the fans.

Re: Career Watch: Coach Roos
Why does this coaching crew still have a job? We aren't even competitive with the also rans. When we have to play the Buffalo's, CMU's, and Ball States we are cringeworthy. The good team in the conference are so far ahead of us as to make us look like a middle school team. We once dominated those teams. They have gotten better and we have consistently regressed.
