BG JV vs Miami

Post by gmartin »

Not expecting much for the rest of the season, not expecting much until changes are made quite honestly. BG has 2 conference wins and I see maybe 1 more on the schedule.

Even with our 2 wins we are still being outscored by nearly 13 log.

My prediction: BG JV 65 Miami 73

Edit: After 3 periods it is tied at 48.

What's going on with Cecil. Zero points, 5 rebounds but 6 Turnovers.

And another loss.......

Yes the game was pretty much over with 12 secs left but why is Lambert still dribbling the ball for 5 secs before making a pass..... Smh.

The race to the bottom continues....
2-9 conference, 10-12, 91-90.

OMG get a new coach and a point guard.

Maybe we should schedule some of the local high schools...we might have a 50/50 shot.

They had pictures of the Sweet 16 team today. All I could think was - if Roos had been the coach that year - we probably wouldn’t have made it to the MAC Tournament.

So wasn't the HC coach during that time but was the associate coach and recruiter. Every girl on that sweet 16 team was recruited by Roos. Roos is a great recruiter. She sees the high school level talent but that's it. She can't develop it or coach. We still won 3 years after Miller left because the Seniors that year still were playing what Miller preached. Once Miller's philosophies left so did our winning tradition.

This one was lost on floor play. Only 4 assists for BG and 18 TOs. Miami had 11:8 Assists to Turnovers.

Chicago State set an NCAA record today. 59 straight losses. Maybe BG should schedule them next year if the streak is still going. BG could help them end the streak.

Each game we tend to find different ways to lose. Yesterday was outright embarrassing to have our alumni subjected to seeing poor coaching as well as poor play once again from our so called 2 star players. I witnessed both Sidney & Santoro not pass the ball to an open Caterrion. Every since she has earned more playing time. Roos has stated that she need a another go to player but her 2 main players would rather sacrifice games instead of making the right play. Santoro is shooting horrible from the 3. Why take an ill advised 3 like she did. Thompson is one of the tops in the Mac from the 3 & you don’t pass her the ball. I witnessed Thompson calling for the ball on several occasions. She had a mismatch the whole 2nd half. 5’3” guarding 5’10”. I truly feel as if we are competing against each other. Well let me correct that. I feel Lambert & Santoro are competing against the rest of the team. Neither one of them pass the ball to Thompson when she is open. Sidney did hit her with a nice pass on a fast break though. Thompson missed the layup. In my opinion I think she was shocked she actually had the ball passed to her. Watch the offense when Thompson is out there. The plays are ran on the opposite side. I heard Roos screaming to swing the ball on a few occasions when Thompson was open right in front of her. They failed to do so. If I know my job is on the line I’m sitting those 2 down or calling them into my office & letting them know either we play as a team or you simply won’t be playing.

Interesting observation, Robb. I agree that Santoro is not one of the best three ball shooters on the team. If you’ve noticed, she is not a good free throw shooter either. The only thing I really give her credit for is her ability to get to the basket, however she has a difficult time finishing once she does get to the hole. In that situation toward the end of the game, my best three point shooters, and foul shooters, would be in the game, namely Thompson, Lambert, Williams, Myers, and perhaps Parker. Puk had already fouled out. Caterrion Thompson, I believe is the best basketball player on the team, with Cecil being the most athletic. Cecil however, along with Glowniak, Puk, and Santoro, are like bulls in a china shop when trying to go to the basket. Charging fouls galore! Thompson is good at getting to the basket, and you rarely see her picking up a charge. I believe she’s that much smarter than the rest of the team, as you can tell that she makes fewer stupid mistakes than her teammates. She should have started from day one. Personally, I feel just as comfortable with Williams at point guard, maybe even more so than when Lambert is in there. Williams has the potential to be an awesome point guard, but she’s not going to be developed by this staff. She will have to excel on her own. Also, it is SO stupid for our centers to come out to the top of the circle to help on a double team, while leaving their “man” wide open underneath for a layup. I see this all too often. More bad coaching! Enough already!

I am just as frustrated as everyone else here. I just looked at stats after reading Robb's post as he had me curious and I question your knowledge of reading stat lines. Looking at the stats Santoro .387 Lambert .302 and Thompson .364 overall and for FT Santoro .662 Lambert .791 and Thompson .652. I think they all need work. Assists per game Santoro 1.6, Lambert 2.2, Thompson .7. Rebounds Santoro 9.5, Lambert 3.9, Thompson 1.8

As far as selfish players I don't see that I just see a lack of discipline and guidance from the coaching staff. I see players just trying to win games. You just sound frustrated Robb.

All you talk about is offense but you fail to talk about defense. IMO we cannot stop anybody on the defensive end which is why we are getting beat. As for Puk she spends a lot of energy always guarding the other teams best player and Santoro does the same rebounding.

As for Cecil I like her game but she is really going through a funk. We know she can play IMO we need her back in the line up, I hope she gets out of the rut. Once again coaching.

Yes, something is going on with Cecil, and I believe it could be a confidence thing. For her size, she's a great ball handler, and she knows how to penetrate, but like the others, she struggles to finish the bunny shots. But it puzzles me that as good as she is handling the ball, that her only move to the basket is to blow over the top of the defender. With her mobility and agility, how awesome could she be if she would do more pull up jumpers and put the moves on the defense when going to the rim, by going around them instead of over them? She is definitely quick enough. She has awesome ability and potential, but it needs to be unleashed. I just wonder what would happen if Roos told these gals to just go out and find ways to score, and just turns them loose to have fun and play some "barn ball", as opposed to sticking so tightly to her failed structures on both ends of the floor. But..........coaching, coaching, coaching.......or the lack thereof! MHO

“The biggest Achilles’ heel for us was our turnovers and second chance points,” Roos said.

No. Our biggest Achilles' heel is our coaching.
