MAC Tournament
Just looking at it, right now we are I think the 5th seed.
Re: MAC Tournament
I would love to host a MAC tournament game, although it kinda sucks that BGSU is on Spring Break that week.

Re: MAC Tournament
BG is always on Spring Break. I think 1999 was the last time students were back for the MAC Tournament.mbenecke wrote:I would love to host a MAC tournament game, although it kinda sucks that BGSU is on Spring Break that week.
Re: MAC Tournament
I know, and that always stinks. Hockey will be hosting a home playoff series from March 2-4, and students will have already left for Spring Break by then, too. It's just not ideal. The biggest games should have the biggest student turnout, and the best atmospheres. Instead, we can't catch a break, and the atmosphere of those games is not as great as it could be.gmartin wrote:BG is always on Spring Break. Re: MAC Tournament
At this point not sure how it gets figured. Common opponent in EMU, BG and WMU each beat EMU where Ball State lost. Another common opponent Akron, we lost and Ball State and WMU beat Akron. WMU and Ball State also beat NIU we split. Tuesday night will settle one log jam. Beat Ball State and we go up a game on them and win that head to head. BG, if they play their game could win 4 of next 5 to get to 9-6, possibly top 4 with a few games left. But what BG team will show. The one who played in Toledo and Dekalb??Globetrotter wrote:Just looking at it, right now we are I think the 5th seed.
Re: MAC Tournament
I've always felt BG should move Spring Break back 2 weeks to middle of March. At least when I went to school in 1991-95 exams weren't really around break time so moving it wouldn't be hard. Not sure what the core requirements look like today. Moving spring break back 2 weeks would allow students to be on campus of basketball and hockey tournaments. Plus if we were fortunate to make the NCAA, Spring Break would be over the 1st week of March Madness so students wouldn't miss school and could attend tournament games. Re: MAC Tournament
That actually sounds really ideal, and it would definitely increase student attendance for those types of games, in my opinion.gmartin wrote:I've always felt BG should move Spring Break back 2 weeks to middle of March. Re: MAC Tournament
Not sure when exactly it changed but it was more recently than that.gmartin wrote:BG is always on Spring Break. I was a senior for the 01-02 season and we went to Florida for spring break, but our first stop was Cleveland for the tournament. We watched the whole thing, including KSU beating is for a3rd time in the championship game on Saturday night. We then left the Fund and drive straight through to Panama City Beach.
Remember watching the Sunday selection show in a bar down there.
I do think they changed it shortly after that though and it never made sense to me. Take the students away for the most important games of the season?
Re: MAC Tournament
I know from 91-99 Spring Break waa after the MAC Tournament. The MAC Tournament during those years were at Cobo and then Seagate. Thank goodness not anymore. Too small venue. Low ceilings but students were around then. So it was somewhere starting 2000 that they moved Spring Break to during MAC tournament. Bad move!!! I remember that 2002 game. Trevor Hoffman. Antonio Gates
On a side note, any thoughts of the Huntington Center hosting the MAC Tournament? 8500 would be a nice cozy environment.

Re: MAC Tournament
I think the Huntington Center would be awesome. It's cool for the guys to experience playing at an NBA stadium like at The Q, but I love those intimate and loud atmospheres of smaller venues. I think there would be a much bigger BG crowd if it was just 25-30 minutes away, too.

Re: MAC Tournament
Didn't research this, but BGSU is switching their academic calendar for next school year to allow for an extended winter break, which will allow students to take an additional class. I would have to think that this would push spring break back somewhat?
Re: MAC Tournament
Yes - Spring Break is pushed back next year. Unfortunately, it seems like it will directly conflict with a potential (hockey) WCHA Championship game.

Re: MAC Tournament
Well you can't have both. Can't assume you will be in the Championship game so I would rather have the students around for guaranteed games.mbenecke wrote:Yes - Spring Break is pushed back next year. Re: MAC Tournament
Well after the loss tonight BG holds the #7 seed. A win would have given BG the #3 seed but we currently at #7
