Former Falcon Simmons to Washington

Post by Class of 61 »

Noticed that Bob Simmons, former BG player and most recently on the ND coaching staff, has been hired at U.Washington as an asst. Coach. He's from the "old generation" of Falcons, including me of course, and has been a successful coach pretty much everywhere he's gone...most notably as Ok. State head coach.... Now, he's rejoining Willingham. 8)

I always wondered about challenging miami (oh) 'Cradle of Coaches'.

It seems all the fine people who have BG connections, could put us right up there as a contender if not leader.

Any Falcon Fans have a lot of time on their hands ?? 8)

FC,
I can only say that a BUNCH of guys who went to school either with me..or nearly at the same time...went on to become successful coaches at the H.S. and / or college lever and many are still involved...
Guys like Jack Harbaugh at WKU, now asst. to his son, Bob Reublin, from Sandusky HS AND a BG asst. for a number of years, Russ Jacques, HC at Strongsville HS, Arch Tunnell, former Head coach and AD at Solon HS are only a few names that come to mind from my generation alone. We could probably compile a heck of a list if we took the time to do it. 8)

All we should need is a list of letter winners. There was a Falcon record book published in the mid 1970s that listed all letter winners -- If someone has that in their collection it would make a good start.

Also, it's good to know that Bob's health has apparently improved -- I recall a kidney ailment or some such problem when he was head coach at Oklahoma State.

Look at my name... I'm not here to defend MIAMI. But be realistic! Take a look at this list, then recognize that 2nd best in developing coaches in the MAC is a good goal. This is a list of coaches who graduated from Miami. Urban Meyer wouldnt count.

Woody Hayes

The biggest name in the non-prehistoric era is Ron Zook. Ron Zook! They had a nice run going for a while but it dried up a long, long time ago.
