Why? RPI is only relevant when it can be used to exclude a MAC team from the NCAA's

RPI means nothing.
MAC Tourney Champ: Big Dance
Runner-up: NIT
Everyone else: go pay to play in some bs-no-name tournament.
"If you ain't first your last" in the MAC and everything else is just lipstick on a pig.

Yeah Flip, I'm jaded too. I want a high RPI for pride and argument's sake. I know that a high RPI can help us in only a rare edge case.
More than anything, I just want to see this young team play and gel. At this point, I don't give a rip what the other teams are. Give this team a year to gel and then schedule a few big budget fatsos.

Amen to that...I'm excited to see this group of players come together. And the same holds true for football

I'm on the same page, as well. I think this team needs more experience together. I also believe that a lighter schedule like this goes a long way in improving the mindset of the program. If we can build a winning culture, I think some of us will be surprised at how good our teams really are.BleedOrange wrote:Flipper wrote:Why? I don't remember the situation that Jim L came into, but when Dakich got here the program was a helluva lot better off than what Huger inherited. I don't think a quick turnaround (despite this being hoops where 1 major recruit can turn things around) was likely, or even possible, regardless of how good Huger was.
Much like when Clawson got here, the program was going to take a few years to just gain stability before you can start making traction forward.
That said, with this schedule, you better be winning 18+ games in your 3rd season. It certainly SOUNDS like he's recruiting well, but through the first couple classes we haven't seen anybody come in and really light it up right away. Frye looked good, Lillard has had moments, Caldwell has had moments, but nobody in the first 2 seasons has looked like a sure fire future All MAC type guy. We MUST see either one of these freshman come in right away and produce and/or some of the previous 2 classes start developing into that type of player.
If, at the end of the 3rd season, we're still winning 15 games or so and don't have any obvious All MAC caliber players then I think it's time to start thinking about moving on. I don't think we'd actually make any more until at LEAST after his 4th season, but we need to see progress. Last year there was really little to no progress. We cannot have another tire spinning season and convince me that we have the right staff here for us to return to what we want.
The Wheels keep on spinning, spinning, spinning.... GAG.
Seriously, here we are, with 16 wins and only 1 game left. Failed to hit that 18+ game mark with an AWFUL schedule. Yet another year under .500 in MAC play. Yet another year where we cannot even HOST a home tourney game, because we lose 4 in a row down the stretch. At this point I'm pretty well convinced we don't have the coaching staff in place to end our tournament drought. Which sucks, because I know we won't make any changes for at least another 2 years. 2 more years of wasted seasons and wasted time and wasted money...joy.
Wiggins has certainly stepped up to an All MAC caliber player, at the least important position in modern basketball. Turner has shown flashes of being the dominant scorer we've needed forever, but far too often his shot is atrocious. His season shooting numbers are pretty awful.
All in all, another wasted year. Not enough player development, no progress in terms of winning, no progress in terms of heart/intensity.
And seriously, how pissed would we all be about this season if we hadn't somehow luckboxed our way into 3 straight wins in games we were trailing by 15+? Yikes...
Re: Non-Conference Schedule Released - #PATHETIC
Don't worry Hammb. Next year......next year........next year.......... (motto of the BG Basketball Programs defenders). We got a stellar recruiting class coming in blah blah blah. We are young and have no senior leadership blah blah blah. Huger needs a fourth year to turn around the program blah blah blah. Am I missing any other piss poor excuse, trying to lay blame on anything other than the real issue??
You are correct. This is 100% a coaching issue. Like I said many times in the past 2 years, Huger is a great guy, a BGSU and BGSU Basketball Alum, a great family man, but what he is not is a Division 1 Basketball coach. He's outcoached on the court almost every game and his teams for the most part play with no heart or passion, and can't even do the little things. This situation is Louis Orr all over again. We never learned our lesson. It's just sad that the athletic department lets two terrible coaches continue to be terrible and absolutely gut the program, and BACK TO BACK I might add. You think you would learn your lesson and how to handle things differently the first time it happened to you. This basketball program is just an embarrassment, and it starts with the athletic department allowing it to happen. But hey, what's to be expected. They still support a Women's Basketball coach who should have been fired 2 years ago and a football coach who should be coaching back in the high school ranks. He can't even beat lower division teams, at home.

Re: Non-Conference Schedule Released - #PATHETIC
Just realized we are last in both FG% and Scoring Defense in the MAC. Our record is a complete farce.
Re: Non-Conference Schedule Released - #PATHETIC
In defense of Orr, atleast he wasn’t making 300k plus and burning through Frack money to be mediocre at best.
Re: Non-Conference Schedule Released - #PATHETIC
I get what you're all saying, and obviously you have all followed BG basketball longer than I have, but I truly do think that we're going to turn this thing around with this core still here. I don't know why, it's just a gut feeling. When they flip that mental switch and care, I feel like the talent we have will be able to win a lot of games together. It's a big IF, but I think it will happen. I truly believe it.

Records get deceiving when you front load your schedule with cupcake teams like Florida Gulf Coast, Lake Erie College, South Carolina Upstate, Campbell, Norfolk State and Lourdes. Not to mention the terrible loss to the other cupcake Abilene Christian.Globetrotter wrote:Just realized we are last in both FG% and Scoring Defense in the MAC. Our record is a complete farce.

Florida Gulf Coast isn't a cupcake but I get what your saying. They are 22-10 and 12-2 in conference. Norfolk is tied for 1st in their conference.CrazyFan wrote:Records get deceiving when you front load your schedule with cupcake teams like Florida Gulf Coast, Lake Erie College, South Carolina Upstate, Campbell, Norfolk State and Lourdes. Re: Non-Conference Schedule Released - #PATHETIC
Florida Gulf Coast is 22-10 overall and 12-2 conference, but it’s the A-Sun conference and their competing with teams like South Carolina Upstate, Stetson, North Florida, etc. BG should be running circles around any of those teams in that conference. But I’ll retract Norfolk State, even though their overall record is 13-17 and they finished in a 5-way tie for 1st with teams like Savannah State, Hampton and Bethune Cookman in a weak MEAC Conference. Again, BG should be running circles around most of the MEAC schools.Globetrotter wrote:Florida Gulf Coast isn't a cupcake but I get what your saying. They are 22-10 and 12-2 in conference.
