So this will make still another def. coach to be added. WOW! I'm thinking this 2018 defense should look radically different from past 2 yrs.OptionQB wrote:From FootballScoop ...

He'll get quite a bump in pay...congrats to him

Re: New Assistants ?
Wow. Great opportunity for him but he was a TTU guy with Jinks. To me the Defense must be Carl show now!

So Pelini/Jinks has two spots to fill? Be nice to find a guy with some really strong FL ties...

Re: New Assistants ?
1. Brock is so far the only departing staff member that I might miss. He did great work on special teams. That is the only area of the team that has shown improvement since 2015. Still, anyone is replaceable.
2. Pelini gets to hire his own staff. From scratch. That is an awesome opportunity.
3. If Pelini gets that much say, is there any concern there might be a power struggle between him and Jinks? I mean at this point Pelini will be hiring about as many people as Jinks did two years ago. Maybe some of the departures have been because Pelini wanted his own guys, not Eliano holdovers. Will that cause friction? I hope not but could see it heading that way.

The latest hire coached in TX and doesn't appear to have any CP ties, so....

Strength coach Billy Yates taking a job with the Detroit Lions. One by one the Jinks Texas Tech cronies are heading out the door...

Re: New Assistants ?
I don't think "cronies" is the word to use here. Most have moved on to promotions, and that says something about their skills. I think they were just all too young to be on the same staff. If you were to assemble the same staff in 5 years I would bet the results would be totally different.Flipper wrote:Strength coach Billy Yates taking a job with the Detroit Lions. That said, the mistake of too much youth does not seem to be an issue. This is basically a new staff, and I think it will be an exciting one to watch.

Re: New Assistants ?
Given the results of the past two years, I'm OK with all new assistants. I'm sure there are good coaches in there. But when you win a total of 6 games in two years, a shakeup is welcome.

Re: New Assistants ?
I think crony s fair...these guys may have developed as coaches once they were here, but the most of them had little or no D1 experience when they got here and seemed to be hired because they were the only guys Jinks knew.
I'm glad that most of them have moved onto to good jobs...but we've experienced some very frustrating times while they learned their craft

Reading Dejon Gomes being hired as CB Coach. Not much coaching experience but played a couple years in NFL.

DeJon Gomes has officially been hired as CBs coach.
He's very young at 28, but I think that could make him great for recruiting, as he's still young enough to be relatable for the guys we bring in. I hope he knows his stuff - and with his Nebraska connection, I think Pelini trusts him.
