Jans first game with BG at Drake was a better performance than any BG game coached by Huger in 3 years. A good coach doesn’t take 3 years to find.

New Mexico state is 28-5 under Chris Jans. It's not like he had any rebuilding to do. Last year they finished 28-6.

I hate to burst everyone's "Jans would have been perfect" bubble, but I heard that there would have been 6 or 7 transfers if he had been here beyond that one year. The players didn't like his style. He was the Bob Knight type in practice.

I think he is a very good coach, but I think it wouldn't quite have gone like many think if he had returned.

You aren’t bursting any bubbles. You mean Louis Orr’s recruits would have left sooner? Perfect. It was probably by design. Those guys who would have transferred would have been replaced rather easily. We know the new players would have been developed better. Just use Holmes, Henderson, and Clarke as your examples. Jans would have won big at BG, or got another job before he finished the job here. He isn’t a good coach, he is a great coach. Huger isn’t a mediocre coach, he is well below average.

Yep...too bad he acted so poorly in public that he gave the University grounds to fire him with cause...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

And for those who think different please note the lack of a lawsuit in which he would have received the remaining money in the contract. Sad day for all but as others have hinted he probably would not have stayed long enough to finish the job.

Time to get on board with Huger and hope the trend goes up. He’s got 2 more years before a buyout will be considered so let’s see what happens.

And hopefully Moose is ready to pull the trigger on Kingston’s worst or second worst hire after next year. Either one of them.

I fear you're right but God I hope not. If we don't make a major move next year we need to move on. I'm sick and tired of accepting crap for extra years just because it'll cost us some up front to buy out a coach.

Next year is the last year he gets any benefit of the doubt from me, and it better be a 22+ wins, 12+ MAC wins season

I’d love to hear someone give me the formula how BG is any better than 4th in the MAC East next year. And 4th is being generous. Everybody is back? Buffalo has 90% back. Most of the East has key players back and players waiting. Most of the East has more proven coaches. Unless BG adds a 1st team All-MAC performer that we don’t know about, I just see another 5th or 6th place finish.

Agreed, we seem to expect so much more when so many other MAC teams were using young players in key roles. I expect that we will be better but so will the competition in the MAC. After 50 years with no NCAA bid and consistently mediocre support financially and in attendance there needs to be a culture change to get the best MAC recruits. I’m amazed at how quickly many of you expect this to turn around. I see better recruits but we still lack large athletic basketball players similar to Buffalo. We are getting closer but I don’t think our history in the MAC makes it an easy journey. Reasonable patience is what I intend to have. What Chris Jans did in one year helped Huger none at all after the DDII and Orr years. That little blip in wins built nothing it only took advantage of a couple JUCO players and a freakish athlete that Orr acccidently brought in and barely developed. They left and so did Jans thus start over and build.

And on a last note the Frack money is nice but does not make up for ticket sales and institutional support. When it compliments those two money sources then it will provide the power to accomplish something. Until then it will simply keep the program afloat so let’s stop using its existence as magic bean that ensures success. Thanks to Mr. Frack should be in the form of filled seats and Falcon Club donations. Until that happens I doubt the university steps up.

Ill take it.
1. We started two freshman and two sophomores for much of the year. The odds are they get better. It's not like every player gets equally better every year. Guards tend to make the biggest leaps and having veteran guards matter the most.
2. We have depth now. If no one leaves we have a nice 8ish man rotation leaving out Gadsen, Uju, Fields and Cummings. (and recruit 2 who might be nonexistent.
3. I have very little doubt they scrap that offense. Maybe even whichever coach preaches that offense. Its' terrible. It can't get worse.
4. The D has to get better and I assume will with Koch improving and or seeing less minutes and Fox leaving.
5. We have no leader. Justin Turner might just have been waiting and not wanting to take that role as a freshman. But as our best player maybe he takes it on his shoulders next year.
6. Despite having an atrocious offense. Which we do. We have a ton of guys who can score. 4 starters can put up 20 any night.
