Repeat, Repeat

Post by fredthefalcon »

Here's what I posted on March 21, 2017: But first, I had missed the All-MAC selections this year and reviewed them just today. It was not a surprise that we had no player on any All-MAC selection even HM. Also, BG failed to land anyone on the All Defensive or All Freshman teams. Care to hazard a guess on what other team had this distinction. Miami, No they had a player on the Frosh Team. Akron, No they had a HM selection. Well how about no one but BG. Ring-a-ding-ding. A shameful fall from grace that may not be much better next year unless some amazing Frosh shows up.

Well it's one year later and this comment still applies to the Falcon Ladies. Again in 2018 No Falcon made any of the many spots on the ALL-MAC teams including Defensive and Frosh Teams. The only change from the prior statement is that Akron this year also did not place any player on these teams. Appropriate for the bottom dwellers of the MAC and a further fall into the depths of WBB.

I dread another year with these coaches. I wish Roos would step down. She has to know she is failing the players, the university, and the fans. The university loses either way if she doesn't step down. It is costly if they buy out her contract. But the continued loss of the fans and revenue, may prove to be just as costly. But it is really almost impossible to be hopeful and excited about next year, if she remains the head coach.

I agree with previous posts on here. Keeping her as an assistant for recruiting would be great. But that would be something for Roos and the new coach to work out.

So how much would it cost to buy out coach Roos? Well according to numerous reports her salary is $290,320. But lets not look at it that way. Let's look at attendance figures the last few years. In 15/16 we averaged 2286. Third best in the league. That also is coming off our first bad year. The previous year we went 30-5. In 16/17 we averaged 1906. This year our home attendance was 1507. That number is inflated a little because we had a school day game of 4300 kids. So for each of the last two years are attendance at drop nearly 400 fans per game. Looking around the arena the student attendance is about the same so those 400 are paid tickets. Average price of a ticket for the women's game is $10. It's obviously more if it's a season ticket holder or an Anderson Club level, but for this purpose will just say $10. Now this is being very generous but let's just add $3 for concessions per ticket and free parking. If our attendance continues to drop by 400 fans next year BG will be losing at least $78,000 in revenue. People are fed up. Who knows we may lose more than 400 fans per game next year. During our good years with Curt Miller we averaged about 2350, so next year we may actually be 1000 less in average attendance. How quickly will a new coach change the culture we do not know. How quickly will the fans come back we do not know. But based on figures over the last 2 years it's only a matter that more fans stay away from this program next year and in doing so we will lose about $78,000 in revenue from this year and this year was bad enough. Only 31 more games to go in the coach Roos era.

I know of quite a few long time season ticket holders that are NOT renewing. Myself included. I have been a season ticket holder since Fran Voll was coach. I’m done. Most embarrassing year ever. It may take quite a while to bring the fan base back. I still haven’t gotten season tickets for hockey again -

Maybe you should get tickets for hockey next year instead of women's basketball. I think hockey will win the league next year. We got some excellent young freshman. We got both our goalies back. It's also all very fun atmosphere. Heck they had 2500 for this weekend's games and students were on break.

I didn't ttend a single women's basketball game this year. It was just tough to watch, knowing we would lose almost every single time we stepped out on the floor.

Hockey season tickets are definitely the way to go, if you're looking for a replacement.

So now you can re order your season tix, since a coaching change is underway. While you're at it, get hockey tix too. You should be in for a good time either way, though I fear the women's program might take longer than a year to rebuild and fix.

I know of one good freshman coming in next year, being Kadie Hempfling from Ottawa-Glandorf. She is a great player, and can put the moves on inside, in spite of her height. I believe she’s listed at 5’10”. Alyssa Dean, the Memphis transfer, will be eligible next season, as well. Here’s an interesting thought.......in the event BGSU hired Robyn Fralick from Ashland, she could bring some of her players with her, as they would be eligible to play immediately. If the Falcons do hire Fralick, I will definitely reconsider my decision to forego season tickets next season. Her record speaks for itself!

Think Hempfling struggle at collegiate level but hope I am wrong. Still think we are missing some pieces of the puzzle going to be a few years . Excited for new hire and see the direction the program will take.

Re: the young lady from O-G. ... my only concern is that the last batches of players have come from smaller school programs. That unto itself isn't bad EXCEPT for chances is these kids haven't played vs the quality opponents that kids from larger programs faced.
I don't know the level of play, for example, the Illinois kids ( current fresh) faced. But none of them have shown all that much IMO. I've only seen them in person once as I'd indicated some time back, but HAVE watched on ESPN3 for nearly all games shown.
We currently have several 5'9-5'10 players and Santoro seems to be only consistent rebounder of that group. When you look at CMU, Buffalo etc, you see some bigs who are athletic and I just don't see that with current BG kids.

Fralick and her Ashland team are 34-0 and in the Elite 8. They have won 71 straight games and as I mentioned was 1 of 3 teams in the Nation that scored over 55 points against UConn and also put up 80 against Ohio State, along with 18 games over 100 pts. And Elmer I think you are wrong. Transferring from D2 to D1 I believe you still need to sit out a year. Going from D1 to D2 you don't but from D2 to D1 I believe you do. Ashland is D2 not JUCO.

Even IF we could get this young lady to come to BG as coach, how many players do you think she could " bring" with her and what happens to current group of Falcons? We still can only offer so many scholarships remember?

She wouldn't bring that many players. There's a big difference between D2 and D1 type of player. Personally, the girl coming in from OG to me looks like a D2 player.
