The penultimate week is in the books with Mich Tech 64 correctly picking the winners of all 8 games and posting the high score of 23. There were so many penalties this week (261) that no one came close to picking up any bonus points. We have some WCHA teams that belong in the Federal League.

This is it. Do or die. Gut check time. Must win situation. The folks on the bubble are still very much alive as long as they’re peaking at the right time. There is no tomorrow. It all comes down to this. 10 games on tap with a 10-point bonus (and it’s one you've seen before!). Lots of toss-up matchups this week that could go either way. Hardware and playoff spots are up for grabs. Thread the needle this week and you could be lauded as one of the Pick ‘Em GOATs.

Good luck, everyone!

There may be that many this week just in the state of Alaska.

There is a 3-person race for the McNaughton Cup (regular season champion) between SweeneyHawksHockey, soulbeaver, and mbenecke. For soulbeaver to win the McNaughton:
Alabama Huntsville must win on Fri AND
Lake Superior must win on Sat AND
Bemidji must win on Sat

For mbenecke to win the McNaughton:
LSSU must beat FSU on Sat AND
Governor’s Cup SOGs must be between 92 and 100

SweeneyHawksHockey wins the McNaughton if none of the above happens

It’s a good ol’ fashioned donnybrook between SweeneyHawksHockey and soulbeaver for the Mason Cup (highest points percentage). For soulbeaver to bring home the hardware, at least 2 of the 3 teams below must win:
Fri - Alabama Huntsville
Sat - Lake Superior
Sat - Bemidji State

SweeneyHawksHockey wins the Mason Cup if the above does not happen.

At the other end of the standings, there’s a 3-person dogfight for the last playoff spot between <3_Blizzard, UAFIceAngel, and HockeyJohn. For UAFIceAngel to make the top 16:
Ferris State must win on Friday AND
Northern Michigan must win on Saturday AND
Governor’s Cup SOG's must be between 110 and 117

For HockeyJohn to make the top 16:
Ferris State must win on Friday AND
Michigan Tech must win on Friday AND
Governor’s Cup SOG's must be between 94 and 96

Birds of a Feather still has a legitimate shot to sneak into the 16th spot depending on picks and bonus but I don't see an entry. Get those picks in!

<3_Blizzard makes the playoffs if none of the above happens.

Edit -- Hockey John needed Tech to win on Fri, not NMU.

One more scenario: Birds of a Feather is in if
o Northern Michigan wins tonight AND
o Huntsville wins tonight AND
o GC SOGs is between 94 and 101

After 20 weeks, 6160 games picked, and 11,998 total points awarded it's come down to this. crossjcek was the week 20 winner with 25 points. The Alaska teams fired 134 shots at the opposing goaltender so for the second week in a row there were no bonus points awarded.

8-) Congratulations to SweeneyHawksHockey for winning the McNaughton Cup. Soulbeaver and mbenecke put up a heck of a fight down the stretch.
8-) Congratulations to SweeneyHawksHockey for also winning the Mason Cup. Soulbeaver fell .001 percentage points short (the Bemidji OT win was not quite enough).

8-) <3_Blizzard was able to hold off furious last minute charges by UAFIceAngel, Hockey John, and Birds of a Feather to claim the final playoff spot.

Playoff info coming shortly.

Slight goof on my part. mbenecke's first round match is against hawerchuck, not Hatch_man. I updated the brackets.

First off, we'll be changing the name of the hardware to the Jeff Sauer WCHA Championship Trophy. I'll update that next week.

mbenecke posted the most points in the first round of the playoffs with 22 and advances to the quarterfinal round as do higher seeds SweeneyHawksHockey, GoNanooks, Wi.HuskiesFan, and crossjcek. For those of you who have cash on the line in your office pools, note that the entire North regional has been turned upside down with lower seeds puckdude40 and Mich Tech 64 pulling off stunning upsets -- here's hoping your brackets aren't busted too badly. Lastly, Laker Dude kicked my behind up one side and down the other and advances to the quarterfinals. Gee, this was fun...what a great idea it was to have a single elimination playoff tournament. With me and BGFan now out our hopes rest on mbenecke to win it all...Roll Along, mbenecke!

The same form will be used to enter picks for both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds (picks and bonuses). I'll try to post results after Friday night's contests so the field can see who advances to the Saturday night games.

Quarterfinal round is complete. If you picked us to win tonight, well, you didn't fare so well. #5 crossjcek, will face #8 GoNanooks (upsetting #1 seed SweeneyHawksHockey) in the first semifinal game, and #15 puckdude will square off against Wi.HuskiesFan (who knocked off mbenecke by 1 bonus point!) in the second game. The field will be reduced to 2 after tomorrow night's game. Call your bookies and get your wagers in.

mbenecke, you did a nice job this season representing the Falcon nation. Stick tap to you, man. Go get 'em next year. Roll along!

For those who are still following along. crossjcek vs. Wi.HuskiesFan for all the marbles.
