James Morgan goes to FIU
James Morgan goes to FIU
Congrats to James and looking forward to watching his growth on a new team. Also was James throwing our coaches under the bus? He stated that its' nice to play for a team with some ELITE COACHES???
Re: James Morgan goes to FIU
I wouldn't call Butch Davis at FIU Elite.

I would. He built maybe the most dominant college football team in history at Miami. He had NC primed to become a powerhouse until the scandal hit them.

What happened at Miami when he was there? Did he cheat there too or was he the guy between cheaters.....I honestly don't recall as cheating and Miami seem to go hand in hand
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: James Morgan goes to FIU
Butch Davis took over from Dennis Erickson (sp) when Miami was hit with all the sanctions. Went 8-3 without a full allotment of scholarships. Cleaned up the program (as much as the U could be cleaned up) before heading to Cleveland.
Definitely an elite college coach.

Butch built up the Canes. Any coach could have lead them to title in 2001 and should have won in 2002. He left them for the Browns after telling them he was staying.Flipper wrote:What happened at Miami when he was there? He was also behind the academic scandal at UNC. The guy is following the Frank Solich career path. I wish James the best of luck, but I never saw the accuracy here to think he was going to be a successful Div. 1 QB.

Exactly. He cleaned the program up and then left and the Coker won in 2001 and then let the program go to hell again. As a FSU fan I hated seeing them so good but have to admit The U 30 for 30 might be my favorite.
Re: James Morgan goes to FIU
So getting back to Morgan. In 2015 he redshirt. He played 2 seasons at BG and is a redshirt Jr. He has 2 years of eligibility left. He is graduating pre law I believe. He is graduating in May, in 3 years total, very impressive.
He is transferring to FIU as a graduate transfer making him eligible to play this season. He cannot physically transfer until after graduation. As a graduate transfer you only get one year to play so does he lose that other year of eligibility? If he would have just did a normal transfer and not a graduate transfer I assume he could sit out a year and still have two years remaining.

I don't know how, but I know Morgan is immediately eligible AND he has 2 years left.
BGSU '20
Re: James Morgan goes to FIU
Even after redshirting as a freshman he can still transfer, not have to sit out a year and have 2 years eligibility. Pretty good deal for him.

I realize the rules are not the same for every sport, but this is similar to the case with women's basketball's Kennedy Kirkpatrick. She sat out a year at BG as a redshirt, then played two years here. When she graduated and went to Northern Iowa as a graduate transfer, she was eligible immediately and played two years for them.gmartin wrote:So getting back to Morgan. In 2015 he redshirt. Pretty sure JMo is RS Soph. 5 years to play 4.
Year 1 - RS
Year 2 - RS Freshman
Year 3 - RS Soph
Year 4 & 5 - FIU grad transfer

Re: James Morgan goes to FIU
Yes he is a Southmore for another 6 weeks then he'll be a redshirt Junior. My question was, he's using The Graduate transfer rule which allows him to play immediately. I thought as a graduate transfer you're only allowed to play one season. I'm aware he still has two more years of eligibility left but as a graduate transfer generally you get one year. I thought with two years left of eligibility he would have to transfer, sit out a year, and then play two more years with in his graduate program.Tony4BG wrote:Pretty sure JMo is RS Soph. 5 years to play 4.

And fwiw, the FIU boards are annointing him the next Tom Brady. They are saying he is a 4 star QB that was just placed in a bad offense with high school coaches.
Re: James Morgan goes to FIU
I thought James Morgan was a solid QB. He had skills, but was not in a good position at BGSU. No offense, No line, off and on backfield and receivers with attitudes. Not a good look for any QB. Morgan must be intelligent to graduate from college in three years and play D-1 football. All the best to him and his new team. I ask you can BGSU stay on the field with FIU? I do recall our coach saying , we had no NFL talent on this team at one of his press conference. I could not believe he talked down on his own team. I like coach Jinks, but that was not a statement a coach should had made.
