Legends Classic Announced

Post by mbenecke »

It was just announced that BG will be participating in the Legends Classic next year. I'm not quite sure what this event is, but to my understanding, it means we will do the following:

Play games at 2 of the following:
St. John's, Temple, Cal, VCU.

AND

Play 2 games against the following at Detroit Mercy
Detroit Mercy, Hampton, Loyola-Maryland.

While I would have preferred to get some home games out of this, it is nice to see some Big East/PAC 12 flavor on the non-conference slate. Should be a couple of interesting match-ups.

Step in the right direction. Maybe in a few years we will get St Johns or VCU to return the favor and come to the Stroh.

The Stroh Center has been open since 2011. It has been opened for 7 years. In those 7 years we have played 45 non conference games. Of those 45 games only 3 games have been from Power Conferences: Michigan State, Temple and Cincinnati. After those 3 games I guess the only big draw game/school would be FGCU.

However we schedule Howard, Malone x2, Lake Erie x2, Earlham, UMKC, Presbyterian.

It would be nice to get some better opponents for a change.

Good. Play some decent OOC teams for once.

I received a season ticket holder feedback survey today in my email. I plan to respond to the survey, and quality of games will absolutely be mentioned. Playing Lake Erie & Lourdes in the same season is an embarrassment.

I believe I read on this site that the Lourdes game was a late replacement for someone who bought themselves out of a contract. Not much can be done about but I would certainly agree the schedules have been less than spectacular since opening the Stroh.

The full schedule for this Legends Classic was announced today, with BG's games listed as follows:

Nov. 9 at St. John's – Carnesecca Arena (Queens, N.Y.)
Nov. 12 at VCU – Siegel Center (Richmond, Va.)

Nov. 19 vs. Hampton – Calihan Hall (Detroit, Mich.)
Nov. 20 vs. Detroit Mercy OR Loyola Maryland – Calihan Hall (Detroit, Mich.)

Should be a fun and interesting challenge for our boys early on.
