BG just offered 2018 Big Man Tayler Mattos 6'10" 245 out of New Hampshire. Has a number of mid-major offers mostly in the New England or Eastern part of the country. Looking at openings and competition, he would walk right in at Hartford as a C/PF and have value at Canisius as well. We are the only one of his offers that was made in 2018 if that matters. Nice. We had shown some interest in another big recently. It makes a ton of sense to have 3 bigs with Gadsen being an unknown. And we should be able to recruit one considering our second to last big is in the NBA and our current big is All-MAC.

Looks pretty good. Not a stud athlete but pretty powerful with nice touch.

Very surprised he never ended up with a D-1 offer. I suppose I don’t have a trained eye but he really seemed like a person who could contribute.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

I also don't have a trained eye. But I have watched a team that can offer 13 schollies go with 12 3 years in a row and I find it impossible to believe he couldn't be atleast the 13th best player. I thought he looked really good.

This video shows that he can stretch the floor. Would definitely add an interesting blend to Wiggins/Gadsen

This article suggests he may be leaning to go to prep school next year. https://newenglandrecruitingreport.com/ ... -2018-bigs" target="_blank

A second player we offered for 2019 has committed to Miami of Ohio.

I don't think its typical that these mid major guys commit so early. Regardless. Another frustrating sign with our recruiting. We are not getting the guys we want early and so we are settling for roster fillers. Now Miami of Ohio is getting those guys.

The said player has now indicated that isn't true.

This feels like a good get. I don't see him being a major contributor his freshman year, but definitely a really good big body to have on the roster, especially if he develops like Wiggins has.

Some thoughts.

1. Please use that last scholarship!
2. Now we have a Mattos and a Mattis, we are going to have to learn Mattis last name.
3. We have so much more size now than 2 years ago.
4. Mattos was on Wrightway Skills with 2 2019 players we offered, one is a 7 footer who is a stretch 7 footer
5. Mattos and Gadsen compete for starting minutes in 2019. It's a great thing having 2 bigs with that much potential

1 spot left.

1 Frye, Jr-Laster, Jr
2 Turner, So(R)-Fields, Fr
3 Lillard, Sr-Kulackovskis, Fr(r)
4 Plowden, So-Uju, Sr(r)-Sierra, Jr
5 Wiggins, Sr-Gadson, So-Mattos, Fr

PF/C We can pretty much take the bigs off the list. Don't need another one. We are in an ideal place at PF/C.

PG Frye and Laster can manage the PG spot most likely but we could use a Freshman there. Fields might be able to do it but I think he might be better off ball.

I would still like Tyson Walker-6-0 Christ the King NY. We have shown interest.

SG/SF is where we could probably most use a guy. Right now that is Lillard, Turner and likely Fields and Frye (at the 2) with Plowden-Mattis and Sierra playing some minutes as well. Likely mostly Plowden from the brief tape I have seen. We have 2 offers out there that are a bit dated and there is one guy we have shown interest in that I would like (Seabron) but I wouldn't count out another guy we have shown interest in Huey King. We tend to grab local guys late and he fits that bill.

Mikal Dawson 6'4 190 Huntington, WV, Huntington HS, (Offer 7-13-2017) 2*

Frye, Turner and Lillard (if he keeps his head on straight) gives us three solid scoring options who can create and Wiggins is there to clean up. Bench scoring could be a serious issue unless Matiss and Laster hit the ground running. Right now...I feel 100% better about 2018/2019 than I did a month ago. Huger seems to have found three replacements who can contribute
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
