One of our last open 2018 offers, Mikal Dawson is going to prep school in Huntington WV, his hometown. Could be grades or could be he just wished for better offers.

Based on your theory anyone signed around now to any team isn't worth it. That's just nonsense. Lots of great talent still signing. Our coaches just stink at it.
Re: 2018-2019 Postseason Recruiting
Our coaches have proven to be completely inept at building a roster.
Inept at scheduling.
Poor to mediocre at gameday management.
I'll give them fair in talent development.

Well hammbone, it's 2018, and for decades we keep going to games and visiting this site. Let us stop and take in the wider perspective.
Huger has established unambiguous mediocrity despite the hopes and the warmest welcomes from the university and its basketball alumni. There's no clear indicator of an upward trend or change in pattern. So we'll ride out his contract.
Before that, Jans flashed brightly but found a way to ruin everything. Orr was hard-wired for failure, so we waited 7 years for him to leave.
Dakich gave us hope and also several textbook case studies of what does NOT work in mid-major basketball. 10 years. Larranaga erstwhile gave us 10 years of mediocrity with great talent. AFTER that, he acquired a national reputation at DIFFERENT mid-major. We waited 10 or so years for nothing.
Before that, we had Weinart, which for me was the most entertaining era of BG basketball. The Greer-Newbern-Jenkins-Faine-Irish teams were the best I've seen at BG. Weinart's teams didn't do s**t either. Those teams all found agonizing ways to fail.
...so, hammbone...going into the upcoming seasons, what are you gonna expect? And why would you complain about anything?

Unfortunate, but true. And someday that dance will be so sweat when a team finally breaks through. I'll try to patiently wait.BleedOrange wrote:hammb wrote:Our coaches have proven to be completely inept at building a roster.

Re: 2018-2019 Postseason Recruiting
I emailed Huger a few days ago to see why we always have a schollie open...I wasn't rude..in fact I complimented him on drawing a higher level of talent than we had previously. He never responded...I guess i'm not important enough. Maybe if I offer to makes some donation$$$$ he'll respond?
Moose ignores season ticket holder emails...Huger ignores a polite question from an alum....do these guys understand how few people actually give a s**t about BGSU athletics?

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: 2018-2019 Postseason Recruiting
Sadly, Flip, I believe they've all decided they cannot possibly screw it up with those of us that still care about the programs. So rather than taking care of their loyal customers they're out trying to scrounge extra bucks from anybody else. Kinda like how DirecTV will charge people that have been with 'em for a decade double what they charge a new customer....Flipper wrote:I emailed Huger a few days ago to see why we always have a schollie open...I wasn't rude..in fact I complimented him on drawing a higher level of talent than we had previously. As for Bleed's point, he's right. This program has ranged from "good teams that disappoint" to "mediocrity defined" with the occasional "well that team was awful" year mixed in. At the end of the day we've been mediocre for the bulk of the previous 50 years. I guess we don't have much right to complain, because that's what we sign up for as fans.
I think what frustrates me most about it is the fact that Mr. Frack's donation should have taken us above this. The brand new facility should have helped us rise up as well. Instead we've got the newest arena in the MAC and sitting on the largest endowment in the MAC. And STILL we cannot win a game in Cleveland or put a team out there that actually feels as if it has a legit chance to compete.

I applaud you for being able to respond in a way that didn't seem attacking. I didn't believe in my own ability to do that. Let's hope that he says, "oh, I thought we only had 12.....here you go....."Flipper wrote:I emailed Huger a few days ago to see why we always have a schollie open...I wasn't rude..in fact I complimented him on drawing a higher level of talent than we had previously. I slowly gave up on BG Football. Took me years. In the end I felt like peter pan unwilling to grow up and then realized what I wanted from that program wasn't realistic. I don't see much difference between following BG basketball now and following Ohio Dominican or Columbus state basketball. A few less fans in the seats. I'm wavering for sure. Not using all your scholarships is one of the most frustrating things I have ever seen. Especially after what happened in 2016-2017. You literally had football players playing basketball for you and a scholarship open.
Re: 2018-2019 Postseason Recruiting
In Huger's defense, I've worked at a couple of athletic departments and rarely did the big sport coaches actually read their own emails before they were filtered through to them first. They get hundreds of messages from high school prospects, coaches, other colleges, administration, etc. Coach Clawson is the only one I've ever heard of responding personally as often as he did, and I would very much doubt he does that at Wake now.Flipper wrote:I emailed Huger a few days ago to see why we always have a schollie open...I wasn't rude..in fact I complimented him on drawing a higher level of talent than we had previously. Moose is a different story. He SHOULD answer to the alum. His goal should be all programs winning games and having butts in seats.

Obviously, from their track record, they will most likely not use the final scholarship but I think there is a chance they could still land a transfer. There is still a ton of guys that haven't landed yet. My fingers are crossed for former Trotwood Madison star and Akron transfer Torrey Patton, even though I bet he'll end up at Duquesne.

Isn't there a penalty for something where they take away a scholarship? We should do that thing if we are not going to use it.

Re: 2018-2019 Postseason Recruiting
I'd be excited about Pettway, the guy looks like he could help the football team too. He could learn a lot from Stacey as an undersized post. To me his game looks extremely similar to Wiggins but in a much shorter package. It would probably be bad news for Gadsen. The Holston guy looks like a reach for BG, I'm not holding my breath on him.Globetrotter wrote:Still 3 guys out there that we have shown interest in that I think would be great adds to the roster.

Re: 2018-2019 Postseason Recruiting
Just a couple months away from the 4th season in a row of less than the allotted number of scholarships. Might have to let freedom ring and give up on the basketball team just like I did the football team. If the head coach doesn't care as much as the fans it's not worth taking part in.
Re: 2018-2019 Postseason Recruiting
I don't think that coach doesn't care, he just doesn't have people around him to explain how it doesn't make sense. He only has 3 assistants and like 15 administrators who could sit down and say, mathematically having an extra player gives you a better chance at success. Especially after finishing in the bottom 4 in the conference in all of his seasons here. Don't forget, he dressed a manager vs Buffalo last year on national TV, and was down 30 or more the entire second half. They told ESPN about it so they profiled the story, then never put him in the game. If you are looking for attention to detail, you've got the wrong school.
