It Can Be Done

Post by fredthefalcon »

So it may be difficult to find a player to fill an opening on your roster and use that last schollie, but evidently Akron had no issues recently by signing three JUCOs at once bringing their commitments actually to one over the limit. VerbalCommits shows 2 SGs in 6'3" Jeremy Roscoe and 6'4" Tyler Cheese. Roscoe had previously played at Southern Illinois. Finally they landed a 6'4" PG with one of the great names in the MAC --Channel Banks. I know BG fans have yearned to emulate Akron Basketball for a decade or more, and despite the fact they have fallen off slightly in the past year, we still are behind the 8 ball in recruiting a full roster.

I imagine it is easier to recruit at Akron with 3 NCAA and 3 NIT appearances in the past decade along with being the outfitted by LeBron’s Nike package. We need to build success at BG to get easier recruiting and it does seem like an eternity on that voyage. I hope I see it soon.

If you follow verbal commits on twitter you will see all of the recruits rolling in for other teams.

And the Broncos just signed 3 players late only one of which was a JUCO. Who has the better program?

2017-2018 BGSU 7-11(16-16) vs Western 9-9 (17-15)
2016-2017 BGSU 7-11 (13-19) vs Western 11-7 (16-16)
2015-2016 BGSU 5-13 (16-18) vs Western 7-11 (13-19)

Laying it out like this shows how garbage we have been in the Huger area.

19-37 in the MAC.

Miami is the only other team in the MAC who has available roster spots. It looks like they have 2.

If a young player was considering BG it would be a huge red flag to me that they couldn't fill out a roster 4 years in a row. That's terrible. There is literally a penalty that teams get that takes away scholarships and we are enforcing that penalty on ourselves. That player would be a senior this year. Even if he was just a character guy who knew the offensive system (we don't have much of an offensive system as evidenced by 2 bigs about a foot away from eachother in the paint last year making it as easy as possible to guard them) we would have a senior leader now. Just grab a freshman that hasn't signed yet and lets actually have a full roster.

My interest wanes if they are clearly not trying to do everything they can to win. I wouldn't tell a recruit to go to this team if they asked me. Not that they would but there are not a ton of positives. Bad record. Coach won't be fired for 3 more years. Offense is bad.
