Besides a cheap t-shirt, you'll need to drop $30+ on campus to get on the white-out marketing bandwagon.

$8.99 for a t-shirt isn't bad at all.
The marketing team is doing their best. Why is it so hard to just support them and be glad they're trying? They care A LOT about the success of the programs and the gameday atmospheres. Why not give them a chance and be all-in, just like they are?

I have given them chances. They develop marketing campaigns that don't go anywhere. "We are BG" was ripped off from numerous other schools. "Talons Up" ended up being ridiculed to the point that they dumped it after Kingston was fired. I'd prefer they focus on something that connects with attachment to the university and not just some one off because a Big Ten opponent is visiting. Want to do a white out for every home game? Cool, I'd be all in. But doing it for one game doesn't make any sense to me, that's all.mbenecke wrote:$8.99 for a t-shirt isn't bad at all.

Neither were original. Neither were great for us.jpfalcon09 wrote:"We are BG" was ripped off from numerous other schools. "Talons Up" ended up being ridiculed to the point that they dumped it after Kingston was fired.
It is clear we crave some originality. We want orange and brown to be embraced in uniforms. We want Ay Ziggy Zoomba to be prominent because that song is all ours. (More or less, anyway; see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPpDTTm1H4k, for example.)
I think the university is listening to us on this. We don't want hand-me-down spirit.
On the other hand, to be perfectly unique is an elusive goal. Trends happen. Should we have never done waves in Perry Stadium because they were doing it elsewhere? Should the band never do the "Go BG" cheer because Michigan does "Let's go Blue!"
I don't think so. To stoically never do anything done anywhere else would be getting carried away, if you ask me.
A white out for all home games wouldn't be a promotion. It would be a dress code.jpfalcon09 wrote:Want to do a white out for every home game? Cool, I'd be all in. But doing it for one game doesn't make any sense to me, that's all.

No dog in the fight regarding promotions. I think they're kind of in a can't win situation, so kudos on them for at least trying.Schadenfreude wrote:Neither were original. I hope they'll finally do something to actually improve the gameday experience, though. THe BG gameday experience has been a shitshow at hoops & football for as long as I can remember.
In reality though, I only clicked reply for one reason to point out that the Wave should never ever ever happen in any stadium ever. It was stupid when somebody thought of it, it's stupid now. Please ban the wave.
(and while they're at it, Sweet Caroline as well. One of very few things I agree with John Wagner on, worst song ever)

Was waiting to see if someone would get access to UNC version of ay ziggy. Pretty sure I’ve read before that OUR version IS the original one. Actually, UNC version is “less peppy” if I could use that analogy.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
