I'm not one to call for criminal investigations when there are civil measures to remedy the situation, but in this case....Court was a certified by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning association...that level of certification is very detailed and doubtless spends a lot of time on the warning signs of over exertion..the shiza online course I took when I was a certified trainer spent a ton of time on that issue. Given that advanced education and his BS in kinesiology, you would think a case might be there for criminal negligence in the death of Jordan McNair

Having had the [dis]pleasure of meeting and working alongside DJ Durkin I don't find any of this at all surprising.
I, like others, always want to see BG alums (and especially those from our football team) succeed, but I would never be able to root for him. My interaction with him was all well before his time with Urban, but I'll just say that the recent allegations fit pretty easily into my perception of him.

Former coach Muschamp pretty much called Durkin a douchbag last week

Nick Court and Maryland have parted ways. It also looks like D.J. Durkin may remain on leave until at least Sept. 15, the weekend after the Terrapins visit Perry Stadium. (Sept. 15 is the deadline for an outside consultant to finish a review of the football program.)

Just a horrible situation. I can't imagine what the family of the player is going through...

Matt Canada is the interim coach. About time he gets a shot at a head coaching job, but too bad this is how it happens. OC at Pitt knocking off Penn State and Clemson in 2016, also at Indiana, Northern Illinois, and others. One of the best OCs in the business. Uses a lot of shifts, adjusts with the best. He will have Maryland ready.

I had the same reaction. In the articles I saw, Muschamp was praising Durking pretty highly.Class of 61 wrote:

I am referring to an interview on the Paul Finebaum show. He said Durkin takes his practices top far. He said it was borderline 'crazy' and it would be difficult as a parent to send a child to Maryland. He said Durkin is a fine coach but his tactics are too intense. Glad to see the President of Maryland actually take responsibility. Court has already resigned. I don't see how Durkin survives this especially after the University has taken responsibility.Schadenfreude wrote:I had the same reaction. Re: Maryland football in a state of utter chaos....
There is a way he can stay...but it isn't likely. Maryland is treating the McNair case as a breakdown in protocols by the training staff....they seem to have compartmentalized it away from the coaches. The drill they were running was...from what I've gathered...very common in football and other sports involving a lot of cardio training.
The allegations that Durkin created a toxic environment are being looked at separately...there is some leeway where they could say McNair's death was a competence issue with t he training staff and had nothing to do with the football staff and the football coach...while being an intense individual...is not running the program in an irresponsible way

Looks like they’ve figured out how to move on. Watching them really take it to Texas right now and they look quick and talented. Not the same team we blew out a few years ago.

Texas is WAY over ranked. Should not be a Top 25 team. They has a bad offense and lost lots of talent on the D. However Maryland looking very fast.drumstix2388 wrote:Looks like they’ve figured out how to move on. Watching them really take it to Texas right now and they look quick and talented. Maryland was picked by most as the up and coming team for the Big Ten this season BEFORE that tragedy happened. So the talent is definitely there. Whether they can stay focused beyond that first home game...well, I guess we'll see.
BG should still be able to hang with them (and hopefully knock them off). But make no mistake, Maryland does have talent this year. They will still likely end up toward the bottom of the division, but that's because the East is ridiculously strong in the Big Ten.
