Eastern Kentucky

Post by jpfalcon09 »

EKU pays a visit this week and we all can't help but feel traumatized after losing at home last year to FCS South Dakota. The Colonels played last week at Marshall and lost a pretty one-sided contest 32-16, only gaining 198 yards (48 passing) despite forcing four turnovers.

BG needs something positive at this point, the program hasn't won a home game since 2016 enthusiasm is in the crapper.

We won 3 home games in 2016, and I hope we are able to get one this weekend.

This is a game that we can and should win. Now, injuries from this week have built up a little bit of anxiety for me here. But we've gotta win this game.

Depending on how healthy we actually are and who plays, I see us winning this game by a score of about 38-21. I think our O-line will be able to move their smaller athletes around, and Clair will have a big day on the ground.

John Gibson said in the postgame that these next two games are going to define our season. He's right.

Eastern Kentucky has looked okay good so far, beating Morehead State 49-23 in their opener and losing at Marshall 32-16. If we are really progressing as much as some of us are daring to hope, then we need to win this by a couple of scores at least.

I think we are capable of that.

Worth noting that the win against Morehead is essentially the same as BG playing EKU. Morehead is in the Pioneer League, which is the non-scholarship conference of FCS, and they typically finish in the bottom half of the league. From what I read, Marshall played really sloppy and still doubled up EKU in yards and points. This should not be close.

So I guess some real talk here but if BG loses this game, is it ten bells for Jinks at the end of the season?

It certainly could be, but I would shocked if we lose this game.

No matter what, this is a team we have to beat. The injuries cannot be used as a big excuse in this game, no matter how many there are.

I've given Coach Jinks a pass in the past, but this is truly his program with his guys now. He's recruited well enough that we should be able to overcome those losses to get a W on Saturday.

I'm looking forward to this game. The weather should be nice.

EKU is 1-26 against FBS teams going back to '98 with a win against Miami in '14. Our 63-13 win in '03 was their biggest loss in terms of margin and the most points given up. I don't think anybody is going to confuse the '03 BG team with the '18 team.

At this point, I'll be happy just getting a win.

Yes. When someone says a two game stretch defines your season and one of those two games is against an FCS, that is telling.
I listened to his press conference. He defended his team. Emotionally. Last time I heard a BG coach that adamantly defending his team in a press conference was Gregg Brandon in 2008 after losing to Boise State.

If Jinx loses this game, losing to a FCS school for the second year in a row, AT HOME, he needs to be fired before he even gets to the freaking locker room after that game.

I legitimately wonder, and I know this is probably inappropriate to speculate about...

Who would we get to replace Coach Jinks, in the event he was let go after the season?

My hope would be landing an interview with guys like Greg Studrawa (OL, Ohio State), Ed Warriner (OL, Michigan), Scott Littrell (HC, North Texas), and Bo Pelini (HC, Youngstown State).

I also think it would be incredible if we somehow got a hold of a guy like Mike Elko (DC, Texas A&M), Ryan Day (Co-OC, Ohio State), Kevin Wilson (Co-OC, Ohio State) or Greg Schiano (DC, Ohio State), but I don't think finances would line up. Some assistants are making over a million a year these days.

Absolutely. I've been thinking that since leaving the Doyt soaked and dejected Sat night. IMO, we have to win this next one...and the one after that.
