Probably find another HS coach from Texas. None of these guys would come here.mbenecke wrote:I legitimately wonder, and I know this is probably inappropriate to speculate about...
Who would we get to replace Coach Jinks, in the event he was let go after the season?
My hope would be landing an interview with guys like Greg Studrawa (OL, Ohio State), Ed Warriner (OL, Michigan), Scott Littrell (HC, North Texas), and Bo Pelini (HC, Youngstown State).
I also think it would be incredible if we somehow got a hold of a guy like Mike Elko (DC, Texas A&M), Ryan Day (Co-OC, Ohio State), Kevin Wilson (Co-OC, Ohio State) or Greg Schiano (DC, Ohio State), but I don't think finances would line up. Some assistants are making over a million a year these days.

Re: Eastern Kentucky
I think the only guy that I listed that was realistic would be Greg Studrawa. He graduated here after playing at BG from 1984-1987. He's never been a head coach anywhere, but he's been in the college game for nearly 30 years. He has also made stops at Cincinnati, Wilmington College, Arkansas State, Maryland, Ohio State, and LSU. He was also an assistant and an offensive coordinator here at BG from 2001-2006.
I think it would be a phenomenal hire to get someone who knows what we're all about here. He would instill a culture centered on dominating the line of scrimmage and make it important to beat Toledo again.

Didn't Stdrawa apply for the gig a couple of times in the past?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Even though I am not a fan of the Jinks hire and results, I will maintain the same thing as always. Speculating about replacement publicly like this is a bad idea. Recruits and their families visit boards like this very one.

And that's totally fair. I should probably not have even brought it up. I was just curious what others thought.MarkL wrote:Even though I am not a fan of the Jinks hire and results, I will maintain the same thing as always. I still back Jinks and hope he succeeds here.

You are correct that they do, but we as alumni and die-hard fans need to have a place to vent and discuss hot topics surrounding the program. Regardless of what we say, his record speaks for itself.MarkL wrote:Even though I am not a fan of the Jinks hire and results, I will maintain the same thing as always. It's crazy to think three years this week the program was coming off a huge win at Maryland, now we're hoping the team can beat an FCS program and a conference foe to give us some glimmer that things are going in the right direction.

Welcome to life in the MAC. NIU had a longer sustained level of success than us during the same time period and is in a similar boat.jpfalcon09 wrote:It's crazy to think three years this week the program was coming off a huge win at Maryland, now we're hoping the team can beat an FCS program and a conference foe to give us some glimmer that things are going in the right direction.
CMU went 27-4 in the MAC from 2006-09 and then followed that success with back to back 2-6 MAC seasons.
Kent State went 8-0 in the MAC in 2012. Not sure they've won 8 MAC games total since.
Miami went 15-1 in the MAC in 2003 and 2004. Two years later, they were 2-6. Miami again went 7-1 in the MAC in 2010 and has been a disaster ever since.
It's all cyclical. We'll be back eventually.
Re: Eastern Kentucky
And Eastern Michigan was the door mat of the conference for about as long as anyone can remember, but they just won at Purdue and seem to have something good going there now. If that program can come back from the depths of where they were, then we certainly can rebound. Getting the right leadership is key. EMU plays Buffalo this week. Will be interested to see how that one goes.
We will be back at some point. I just hope it's sooner than later.

Re: Eastern Kentucky
EKU fan coming in peace. Looking forward to another football Saturday this time in Ohio (Originally from Cincy myself). A couple of notes about EKU that I have seen discussed on here. We always seem to play up to the level of FBS teams when playing a FBS team. Last year we almost beat UK. We have played K-State and Louisville close in recent years as well. Even last week the score line does not reflect how close we played Marshall. That was a one possession game as late as the 4th quarter I believe.
We seem to be in similar positions as far as coaches go. EKU coach is in his third year where he won 3 games in year 1 and 4 games in year 2. Fans have been calling for him to be fired since after year 1. He just saw the EKU basketball coach get fired after 3 seasons so he maybe feeling pressure from the AD.

It could happen. No question. That Marshall score was close, and it's unclear how we would stack up against them.
I think Bowling Green wins 31-14. But I could be wrong.

I don't necessary smell upset but I feel similar to how I did before we beat Miami U in 2014. I was thought it would come down to one play and it did.
Re: Eastern Kentucky
This is true but our cycle won't reset until jinks is gone. I mean does anyone think this guy has figured out a darn thing?Roll Along! wrote:Welcome to life in the MAC. Re: Eastern Kentucky
So if BG loses to EKU Jinks should be fired immediately but that won't happen but my question is who gets fired first.
Mike Jinks - BGSU
Kliff Kingsbury - Texas Tech
Chris Ash - Rutgers
Lovie Smith - Illinois
Matt Patricia - Detroit Lions
