Miami
Miami
Miami comes to town sitting at 0-3. They've lost to Marshall (35-28), Cincinnati (21-0), and Minnesota (26-3).
We opened as 5.5 point underdogs, but this is a game we need to win if we're going to show any kind of improvement this year. I think we struggle to stop the run, but the defense shows a little improvement on that front this week. Hopefully we also get Scott Miller back and continue to show progress in the passing game.
My prediction at this point is BG 38, Miami 31, but that can change throughout the week with injury news and everything else.

Go Falcons!

Re: Miami
Miami's played pretty well defensively but has struggled to move the ball with any consistency. Until BG shows they can win a game convincingly I can't pick them to win. There's just too many question marks on the defensive side of the ball.
Miami 34
BG 27

Re: Miami
So there are 130 FBS schools.
BG ranked #121 in total defense (only 9 schools worse)
BG ranked #128 in rush defense (only 2 schools worse)
BG ranked #78 in sacks
BG ranked #74 in forcing turnovers
Total defense efficiency is #126 out of 130.

Re: Miami
And those defensive numbers will be much worse after Georgia Tech. The way this team looked on Saturday, I don't know that i could say we are better than any MAC team. Long way to go in the season and hopefully we will see drastic improvement, but if we don't win another game this year it wouldn't shock me.

Re: Miami
Firing a coach mid season isn't the best idea...who are you going to plug in, Pelini? You're going to have to run the same schemes with the same players because there isn't time to install a new system on the fly. I don't see an upside.
Send out some feelers to agents and pull the plug after game 12

The line seems about right to me.
Re: Miami
Hypothetical situation: Jinks and the Falcons hit their stride big time going into MAC play and end up with 6-7 wins (remember, I said hypothetical). Do we start believing in him as a guy who has righted the ship or do we view it as the talent on the team outperforming the bad coaching? Just curious what it would take at this point to gain a little confidence as a fan base. He lost me with the EKU performance. An FCS team running for 400 yards is inexcusable.

If this team wins six or seven games, Jinx will have earned a suspension of all this "he's on the hot seat" talk.
I agree. There's no excuse for that, especially in Year 3.He lost me with the EKU performance. An FCS team running for 400 yards is inexcusable.

Re: Miami
People wanted to fire Clawson even in year 4. Clawson's regular season records were 7-5, 2-10, 5-7, 8-4, 10-3. During his second season, people wanted him gone. During his third season, the team played better and people still wanted him gone. During his fourth season, we went to a bowl game and people still said he needed to be fired. Remember that year? We lost to Virginia Tech 37-0. Clearly that was just terrible! Some people just can't be happy.Schadenfreude wrote:drumstix2388 wrote:Hypothetical situation: Jinks and the Falcons hit their stride big time going into MAC play and end up with 6-7 wins (remember, I said hypothetical). Now, I am NOT saying that Jinks is Clawson. I simply wanted to draw a parallel. I agree that EKU game did nothing to boost my confidence, but I'll take the win. For our remaining games, I can see wins against Miami, WMU, Kent, and CMU. That brings us to 5-7. If we could squeeze out another win against Akron or Ohio, we're bowl eligible. Right now, I could see 5-7 being possible.
While we are on the hypothetical train, what it BG beats UT this year? Do we still want Jinks gone?

Re: Miami
Dave Clawson's teams showed improvement year over year...Jinks? Nope. Dave Clawson didn't lose at home to an FCS school and almost (like three plays) lose to two more. Dave Clawson had a track record as a bona fide college football coach. Jinks? Nope
Jinks is nothing like Clawson other than they both had 10 loss second seasons

I believe those stats are only for the first two games. Total defense has moved up to #124 while the rush defense has fallen to #130.gmartin wrote:So there are 130 FBS schools.

Miami has struggled offensively while their defense has been solid.
