Might have to let freedom ring and give up on the basketball team just like I did the football team. If the head coach doesn't care as much as the fans it's not worth taking part in.
Except for Orr, I've never thought that we've had bad coaches. I've always attributed the mediocrity to the larger context.

The university and student body have a steady, long standing tradition of not caring about and de-prioritizing men's basketball. This has been stunningly consistent. We had small blips for Antonio Daniels and Keith McLeod, but those were small blips. Currently, student interest is near zero. Fans from the community are sparse and the average age is well north of 50. Interest is so low I wonder if winning would even make a difference.

Given this scenario, some questions
- How ambitious can any coach effectively be? How many roadblocks and apathy does a coach face when trying to do something?
- If nobody else cares, why should you? How much difference can your partisanship make? BGSU is institutionally designed for mediocrity in men's basketball. After 40 years of this pattern, do you see anything concrete on the horizon now that will bring consistent success?

If we ever make the NCAA Tournament, it well be one statistical outlier nestled among several other decent years where we don't come close.

Players still signing with other teams.

We still have a roster spot open.

One of our last open offers for 2018--Maurice Murray has gone the CC route to State Fair Community College in Sedalia Mo. He had good HS numbers and All State mentions so possibly academic issues and/or looking for more big time future offers.

Ended up dming an assistant coach who followed me on twitter. He seems like a great human but obviously I can't speak to his coaching. Asked him about the 12 scholarships when we get 13. He reached back out very cordially and said he didn't like to interact on twitter but that there were many reasons. Asked a bit about who I was. I said I'd be happy to connect via email and even sent him a LinkedIn invite with my entire background. Have not heard from him since.

I'm very hopeful for this year. I'm hopeful that my enthusiasm will pick back up. As of now I feel just as uninterested in this team as I do the football team. To me it's as bad as walking 10 players out on the footbal field when you can play 11. It's mind numbingly foolish to go under on scholarships. These are 18 year old kids. They leave and stay and improve at all kinds of different variables. Life is about planned happenstance and they have chosen four years jn a row to limit their opportunity for success

I am gradually growing to really resent the program and how it's being run. But that has nothing to do with the players on the floor. Here is a guy we signed for next year.

6-3 175 G Davin Zeigler, Cleveland Benedictine.

Not sure if he has a connection to Ernie.

Overall a super athletic guard who seems aggressive and can shoot. Looks like a great signing.

We have 3 more scholarships left for next year. Which is really just 2 because we won't use the last one.

Whoa, that kid looks goooood. He reminds me of Tony Reid from the Larranaga era, but with better handles and body control. He MUST be one of the top 2 or 3 guards in OHIO. WOW!

Davin Zeigler looks like the best guard we've brought in here in since AD. Below is the video that sells me. I can't believe he's only 2 stars. Davin is the type of recruit that hopefully can attract other high-end recruits.

I don't know if it's a good thing but if you look at the list of guys we've offered in the class of 19' almost all of them are gettable. There's only one guy on the list with big-time offers. Obviously, that could change in their senior season, I'm not holding my breath but it looks like there's a chance we could use all of our scholarships next year.

I'm a little less optimistic than you are. Ledlum is the guy with big time offers. Hakim Hart is committing Wednesday after a weekend visit to St. Joe's so that is a doubtful one. Fletcher has a ton of offers so also unlikely. That leaves 2 PGs that are definitely possible. Unlikely to sign both. 2 SGs which is where Ziegler plays so 1 at best to be signed. That leaves PFs Fletcher and T. Williams. The latter is an Ohio native and would be my purely uneducated pick. I see maybe a class of 3 this fall with one other in the late signing barring defections from the current team.

We had early offers to lots of big name guys but they either signed or removed us from consideration.

Saw the Stritch kid play last year. He was the real deal. He's one heck of a scorer, and he's got shooting touch. He's a little undersized, but the kid can flat out play, and play hard.

Scratch off another one. Reed Fenton committed to Lehigh.
