Tom Arth
As many posts have stated, the Mike Jinks experiment isn’t working. Please, please help me get the word out about my choice: Tom Arth. He has to be strongly considered for the BGSU Head Football coach position. If we don’t hire him, I could see him beating us every year at Akron or Ohio when those coaches retire / step aside. He has Mid American Conference Champion written all over him. He checks all of the boxes I’m looking for.
1) Previous head coaching experience. In 4 seasons as a head coach at John Carroll University (a D-III school) his career record was 40-8. I believe 3 of those 8 losses were against Mount Union. However, he also defeated Mount Union in 2016. Currently in his second season at FCS school UT Chattanooga, he was 3-8, but is already off to a 4-1 start this year. He lost his first game this season Saturday to ETSU (whose only loss was to Tennessee). 6th year as head football coach!
2) Previous experience working in this part of the country. Tom Arth grew up in Cleveland, OHIO and played high school football at Cleveland Saint Ignatius. After graduating college, he spent 3 years as Peyton Manning’s backup QB with the Indianapolis Colts. Then he went back to his alma mater, John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio (a suburb of Cleveland), and worked his way up to head football coach. He has spent time working in football in two of the states BGSU football should be heavily recruiting from (Michigan and Pennsylvania the others). Worked in football professionally in both Ohio and Indiana!
3) Defeat your rival. Tom Arth and John Carroll beat rival Baldwin Wallace in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 = EVERY SEASON! In 2016, John Carroll even beat the best team in the league: Mount Union. 4-0 against rival!
4) Anything else? Tom Arth was both the 2016 Ohio Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and the 2016 NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year! In 4 seasons at Division III, made the playoffs three years. 2018 Recruiting Class was tops in the conference.
Help me get the word out so we can get the BGSU Football program turned around!
Check out his UT Chattanooga bio and another article about him.

Re: Tom Arth
He DOES have some excellent credentials, but you’re assuming we’ll be looking for a new HC soon. No matter if Arth is pursued ( or anyone else for that matter), it’ll take another 2+ yrs to “ right the ship”,
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

I'm going with Tom's agent... hello.
Re: Tom Arth
A coach that actually HAS an agent (along with having some HC wins under his belt) would be a massive upgradekdog27 wrote:I'm going with Tom's agent... hello.
Re: Tom Arth
BG Athletics Nut with one post would be one of the more qualified in the room at a BGSU Athletics Department meeting. Let’s hire him to replace those Kingston hires, that can’t find better work.

We're giving the MAC a bad case of Arth-itis.... BOOK IT!!!

Re: Tom Arth
Hi Tom, welcome to the club, but your choice for the next coach at BGSU is not welcomed.
The next coach will be picked and evaluated by the AD and staff. We've learned an expensive lesson from Jinks and cannot get it wrong again.
Jinks will be gone soon and the DC will take over the rest of the season soon as interm coach. This will give BGSU several months to find a successor. NOT YOUR BOY!!! No more politics needed!

Re: Tom Arth
Almost no chance of an in-season change here. And also, are you sure you want Pelini to take over in the interim? I believe in the guy to get our defense turned around, but his unit has clearly been our weaker point so far this year.

To hiway44's credit, others are also saying a mid-season change is possible.Schadenfreude wrote:hiway44 wrote:Jinks will be gone soon and the DC will take over the rest of the season soon as interm coach. This will give BGSU several months to find a successor.
