One MAC football title in, what, 20 years? Come on.
Yeah, in no way has UT proven itself "above" the MAC. No more than NIU, Buffalo, Ohio, WMU, etc. over the last 10 years.
We aren't too good for the MAC. Buffalo will be able to make that claim if they continue success in basketball. Their city and market makes them a slight target for the AAC. Toledo being in a city is next, but that's still WAYYY down the pecking order for that conference.

But a few things were wrong in the above post... We have won 3 titles since 1999 (2001, 2004 and 2017.) As far as being a model for continuous success only Ohio and NIU are close. NIU averages 7,000 fans and have no other good sports programs to move anywhere. They also are like 1-8 in bowl games all time? The Orange Bowl in 2012 is all they have above Toledo or BG for that matter.

Toledo has won 8, 9, 9, 7, 9, 10, 9, and 11 games since 2010. That's top 10 G5 by wins with only one MACC game to pad a win. In those years Toledo defeated the East Champion in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017. 2016 being the only year we have lost to that side.

It's safe to say Toledo is a top 3 team always and a flagship as far as football goes. No casual college football fan can name a stadium in the conference besides the glass bowl and the facilities are by far the best in the conference from an asthetic stand point. Podium.com by review said the GB was 4th in the country on average ranking. You can hate our fans if you want, we hate yours too (all fun and games, not actual hate). But the program, venue, and conference recognition floats with Toledo (for football).

I agree with what you have stated. You should be proud of what your university has done accomplished with its sports program and athletic dept. However, since I am a BGSU grad I am proud of our university, but cannot say the same about our athletics. It's been dismal for years and only getting worst with all the bad press (arrest) (players leaving) poor coaching.

It will change like all things do. I believe its the good old boy system in the AD department that is decaying the programs.
